Cool I'm new to the forums

    Hello guys,

Well maybe like most of you, I got tired of the cartridge razors. Prices on refills is ridiculous.

I just bought a Gillette Red Tip Super Speed. It should be here by Thursday. I'm also purchasing

    - Parker SR1 Barber Straight Razor
    - DE Blade Sampler Pack, Everything
    - Col. Conk Chrome & Wood Stand
    - Pre de Provence After Shave Balm
    - Crown Shaving Co. Supreme Glide Pre Shave Formula
    - Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap Refill
    - Edwin Jagger Best Badger Shaving Brush

I'm going to spend a dime but this is going to last me for a while and the satisfaction will be priceless. I'm excited to get everything in.

I'm debating on purchasing a Vintage 1966 GILLETTE L-1 ADJUSTABLE SAFETY RAZOR. The guy wants $65 for it but it's been completely reconditioned so it has many more years left. Once I buy a DE razor, I do not plan on selling it. If anything, I'll pass it to my children. You guys think that $65 is a lot?

I'm very excited to get everything!!!!!

    Hello and Welcome-

You didn't ask for advice. HOWEVER, by posting you kind of open yourself up to the opinions of others.

So...Red Tip, sampler pack, EJ brush and MWF. Great place to start learning the skill of wetshaving. I'd leave the straight in the package for a while. And I'd suggest waiting on the '66 Gillette. The Super Speed should serve quite well for some time.

Concentrate on learning technique and determining which blade(s) suit you. Some will disagree, but MWF can be a bit persnickity to lather. Were if me, I'd go for Cella or even the Pre de Provence shave cream.

Now that I've open the door, expect other opinions to follow.

And, most of all, take the time to enjoy the experience.
    Regards,
    MaxP

    Sweet kit coming! Enjoy!

I'd recommend waiting before purchasing another razor. There will be plenty available in every condition from user grade to Mint. Some of the best values are found on BST, since we tend to be a friendly and honest group.

    Thanks everyone for the welcome!

Max, thanks for the advice. The straight razor is an upgrade from what I have now. I bought a straight razor at sallys many years ago. I use it to clean my lines. Thanks, for the advice in the shaving cream. I was able to modify my order and I took ur advice.

So you think I should wait on the 66 gillette. I will take you word for it and wait. But do you think $65 for it was a good deal or average?

    Welcome!

I think the price for the '66 is a little steep, but I guess if it has been reconditioned to minty freshness then... hard to say. If you dig it and can't find a similar condition one cheaper then sure. Or spend a little less maybe in the $25-$35 range and get one that is a little spotty but mechanically sound and give it a tickle up yourself.
