I just broke (shattered) my second Dirty Bird brush scuttle. I am going to buy a new one but I wanted to see what other options are out there first. Last time I checked (a year or so ago, Dirty Bird was the only brush scuttle).
Thanks

Sara Bonnyman pottery makes the Moss Scuttle.
Some nice scuttle reviews here:

Georgetown Pottery makes an "Ambrose Brush Scuttle." It probably isn't on their website, you just have to ask for it.

Thanks for the links.
I also stumbled across the Straight Razor Designs scuttle.
The Moss scuttle is expensive so I am going to look closer at the SRD and Georgetown. Thanks!
Seeing as you're on your soon to be third scuttle may I suggest looking at your handling/storage of them and perhaps something sturdier then pottery.![]()
If somethings important you'll find a way, if not you'll find an excuse.
I have the DB brush scuttle and it replaced the GTP brush scuttle. I loved the look of the GTP so much more than the DB but it was just too small for a regular brush. Something to think about when researching.
I ordered a Schwarzweisskeramik XL scuttle this morning:
Not cheap, but said to be one of the best you can get.

I had a DB Brush Scuttle but I sold it. I found it a little too small for the brush I was using at the time (B&B Essential) ... but it would probably fit something with a 20mm or smaller knot.
There's no reason why a regular DB 1x-size wouldn't work perfectly well as a brush scuttle.
I found that the 3-piece design of the DB Brush Scuttle was a little awkward and clumsy, as you discovered since you just broke yours. My next scuttle will certainly be a 1-piece design, although I haven't decided on which one yet. It will have to wait until I get my own place again.
I Came. I Shaved. I Conquered.
I read somewhere that there was a test of the SRD and a few of the others out there and the SRD was the best at heat retention. Sorry, I don't have a link and I can't remember what they compared it to.
That German one is expensive. Over $100 shipped and you still have to deal with customs. Yikes! It looks nice though.
As far as size, the DB was perfect for my brush when I wasn't using Ogallal soaps. That stuff creates a ton of lather.
Still leaning towards SRD or Georgetown
Thanks
One thing I would add if you are looking for a brush scuttle, that is, not for making your lather, just keeping it warm, is that it should "hug" the brush. I found that if my brush/scuttle match wasn't good, just the tips would be warm, and therefore would cool even more quickly. I'm using a first-generation Georgetown, and I would love to get my hands on a small Moss scuttle for my big brushes (the large size I found not to be snug enough).
