Question Thinking of converting my son to DE

I have a 30 year old, unemployed, son that I want to convert to DE shaving.

Knowing for sure he can save money with DE razors over Mach3.

He is coming to visit in a week (for two weeks) and I wanted to use that time to introduce him to it.

Any suggestions for a good starter (not too expensive since I'm buying) DE butterfly razor?

Refer to this chart and keep your eye on the BST

Be sure to give him a sampler pack of blades and some other Newbie stuff also! And don't forget to tell him about us ... we like Newbies!

If it doesn't have to be a TTO ntguy has the $12 Lord LP1822L 3-piece razor in his shop and I frankly can't think of a better razor to start with for little money. It is a razor that is really hard to beat for the shave; mild enough to be forgiving but with enough blade gap to get a shave as close as you want it to be.

Don't think, just show him the DE shave, release him from the expensive carts. As others have mentioned the Gillette Super Speed is the one I would be looking at. You should checkout the BST forum on this site, or even checkout any antique shops in your area.

I came back to wet shaving about 10 years ago, but with disposable razors, which got crappier and crappier. About 3 years ago, I started DE shaving and have never looked back.
Your son will thank you for a lot of reasons; quality of shave, economics, I would start with one of the Lord razors, VDH soap and brush. Right now, my favorite blade is Shark, but since obviously are experienced, your own way will be fine.
I converted my son this year and he will be 21 next month. We bought a SuperSpeed together on "the Bay", but I just got him a YUMA, and he loves it.

I converted my 20 year old about a month ago and he is loving it. Make sure that you tell him to watch the Mantic59 videos, they really help. I got him a Super Speed we are sharing sampler packs, He is using one of my boar brushes and QCS cream sample pack. His last couple of shaves he has used feathers and loves them. Friday he told me that he wanted to turn on some classical music while he shaved. Now to work on the 23 year old.

I was going to suggest purchasing a Parker DE razor new, but after reading reviews on the build quality, I think an eBay purchase of a classic Gillette or similar is the best bet. I just scored a 1976 Gillette Tech 3-piece (plus a set of random clippers) all in good condition for roughly $6, plus postage of course.

Add $5 for a set of DE blades and its cheaper than buying a full pack of carts!

    Good luck with the conversion!

There are some really great people here!

Tom (you know who you are) PIFed my son a Gillette Knack, blades, brush, soap and blades. A whole shave kit!

At first he was reluctant to try it. Thought he'd cut his face off!
But, today, he took the plunge!

    Yep, he loved it!

Thanks Tom and God bless you!
