Default What would you pay for a 67 Camaro?

I don't have pics, but with the following info:

    • All matching numbers
    • RS package (headlamp motors work!)
    • Automatic
    • 80k-ish miles
    • Original I6 engine is out of the car, replaced by something that gets around 350 hp (don't think it's a 348 BB but I can't remember). You get both.
    • Minor, expected amounts of rust on undercarriage
    • Leather roof covering needs replaced
    • Leather seats in fine condition
    • Interior mostly just needs a good cleanup, probably new carpet
    • Not smoked in
    • Original metal, no Bondo
    • Body is in good shape, but it needs a thorough sanding to remove minor rust from a lot of places, and a new paint job. It's that ugly metallic brown color that looks like a dull penny, pretty sure it's the original paint.

Really the only problem is the exterior of the car. It's just ugly to look at, but otherwise should be in good working order (I'll find out next week). What say ye? The guy selling it wants $17k but I know he's just looking to score a buck off it.

I'm guessing he paid something closer to 8k for it. He runs a classic car restoration place, they do good work. Thing is, he made a 500 mile trip to buy it, but hasn't done much besides stick the new engine in it and the let it sit for 8 months, so I know he didn't pony up a lot of cash up front else they would've already pimped it out for sale. It's not like there aren't any Camaros in Iowa for god's sake.

I'm thinking that $12k is about as much as I'd pay, since it does have matching numbers and a second engine that allows me to run up the miles with impunity.

Mods, feel free to move this if you don't feel that classic auto fits in with the finer pursuits in life.

It sounds a bit high to me, especially for an RS - I could be out of touch though. I know all the numbers matching is a big deal but it still seems high. If it was an SS with a big block - maybe. Check out Ebay Motors and the like to see what they are going for.

I did, sometimes stuff is all over the place. My general thought is that for that price or a little more, I should be able to get something that's got a decent coat of paint and cleaned up.

Alot... In Aussie the US donks are a bit expensive. It is quite shocking to see how expensive run down rusted American buckets can cost over here.

Body work is expensive, especially if you don't want to use Bondo. Given the apparent condition, I probably wouldn't go more than 8-9k on it. While the matching numbers are nice, have an automatic transmission and 80k miles without a resto hurt the price a bit.

I hate to say it too, but last time I looked (some years ago) matching numbers on an I-6 didnt mean s#!t unless it was a convertable. For some reason people dont care how fast it goes when the tops down.

Thanks guys, I figure I can't get him to part with it for a reasonable number but I thought I'd get an idea of what was more realistic. I may have been wrong about the engine, I think the matching one is a 327. The convo was really rushed and he was more focused on the engine that was in the car so I got a bunch of stuff mixed up. I got a second look at it. It will require a lot of bodywork, I'm afraid to see what's under that vinyl top. I know something's been leaking around the back window.

One of my buddies just got a 68 v8 camaro with matching numbers and flipped it. It was actually in really good condition and he got 7k for it. I think he paid 4k the day before.

At least you know why he didn't do anything with it other than swap the motor. If you're still interested and frame is ok I would go in around 4k and see what happens. Like you said it's not like there isn't any Cameros around.
