Default TOBS Avacado - Bad batch?

When I first started wet shaving a year or so ago I ordered Truper's Violet and TOBS Avocado. Both were hard or "pasty" creams in that you wet your brush and swirled it arouind in the jar to load it. Both produced great lather when face lathering (my preferred way). I recently reordered TOBS Avocado and when it arrived, the cream appeared as if it was "whipped" sort of. I thought that the product was ruined due to shipping to the hot weather we had in North Florida (105 - a record!). I finally decided to give it a shot and, to my amazement, just a little of the "whipped" product produced amazing lather. Has TOBS reformulated the product? If not, what consistency is correct, "Pasty" or "whipped"?

Just a note, my tub of tobs avacado arrived identical to your ours. Was even leaking from the tub into the shipping packet. Still worked great.

I thought they sold hard soap and a fluffy cream... Either way the cream is amazing.

I got mine from Amazon as fulfilled by a place called simplybeautiful.

I think there may have been a re formulation but I'm not sure. I ordered one about 1 year ago and it was the consistency of a very soft soap. I ordered a second one about 3 weeks ago from amazon-I think it was shipped from simplybeautiful. This one had the consistency of a light whipped shaving cream. It's an excellent product but I'm thinking maybe they changed the formulation?

Have a look @ the ingredients. I have heard that TOBS have stopped using parabens as preservatives in their creams. I don't know if it is responsible for a lighter texture/consistency, but it's certainly a reformulation.

I think TOBS has done at least one reformulation prior to removing parabens. I have TOBS with and without parabens of mass destruction, and the appearance is identical.

I had a tub of Eaton college and it was the soft whipped sort of texture. No leaking though. If it's runny enough to leak I'd say there's something wrong with it. I don't know if this happens with other creams but I've noticed it to be a common complaint on threads about TOBS.

Mine was from Amazon also and I think SimplyBeautiful. Hope when I reorder in the future I get this same consistency. I got a BBS shave with it last night and that is a rare thing for me.

try to put it in the fridge over night and see if it hardens up. Sometimes in the summer time, when shaving creams are en route sitting in hot outdoor temps, they will soften up a bit.

I only have a sample, but it looks whipped and fluffy. Since it smells so good and I like to sniff it, I sometimes bring it with me in the car, where it has gotten very hot at times and melts down to point of its oils seperating from the rest of it. So far it's gone back to normal whipped consistency and still shaves great.

Yeah, it's definitely changed. It's a whipped/lighter/airier consistency. I have a tub of Avocado that I bought almost 18 months ago (used twice), and a tub of Shaving Shop I bought a couple of months ago (unused) and it's noticeably firmer to the touch than the tub of Rose (paraben free) I bought last month. With the rose you can gently run your finger over the surface of the cream and it will collect on your fingertip. The other creams (with parabens) won't do that unless you dig your finger in a bit.

Whether or not the parabens are what is responsible for the change in consistency, the creams have certainly changed. As long as the performance doesn't, I won't mind.

[Also, before I'm taunted and booed for having only used the Avocado twice, I will explain that I have been using Valobra for the last year or so. I'm back on the creams for now, and once the Sandalwood is finished, the Avocado will be taking its place on my sinktop.]
