So now I am anxiously awaiting the B&B/Noodler's offering for my third bottle.
Zhivago is a really interesting ink, isn't it? Very black with green in it, with the green only showing distinctly through in certain circumstances, certain light, certain lines, but still having an effect on what the ink looks like. I really liked it at first, but now I think I like even more green in my black, such as the Noodler's Air-Corp Blue-Black, which as someone else mentioned (and seems to me too) to be rather similar to the Zhivago. There is something that seems more formal about Zhivago though, and more old school about the Air-Corps. ("Blue-Black" is a complete misnomer of a name for the Air-Corp! It is distinctly green-black.)

You should give Bad Belted Gator a try. It is still a Green/Black, with more of a dark green look to it. Im sure you can find some good specimen samples on the net.

Noodler's Navy, provided you have a wet writer. In fine or dry writing pens it tends to show a greenish tinge.

Dark Blues that I LOVE but would be considered a bit on the blue/black side.

Good tip! Had not looked into that one. There are a number of Noodler green black inks, including Sequoia and Squetege (sp?). I had tried those two but the gator looks great!

How do you like the Bad Green Gator? I loaded it up yesterday for the first time, and was surprised at how light green it was. From the look on Gouletpens, it looked much darker like blackish green... It is very green.

I have mine loaded up in a Green Medium Platinum Preppy. It's dark green. I think it looks Nice. I dont see it as light green. It might be your pen. Im new in the world of fountain pens. So I don't know much. Your monitor may not be calibrated to display colors correctly. there are many variables when looking at colors on screen. I wouln't say my ink looks black Green, But it is Dark Green, maybe like a dark grass green. I also shake my inks before using them I don't know if that helps.

I find the Swab Shop samples are kind variable sometimes. The Noodlers G.I. Green I have is darker than the image at Gouletpens but others are on the money.

I am pretty new to fountain pens also. I have it loaded in a new Edison Hudson with a medium nib. Here is a pic. The only thing I had to write on was my steno pad. The ink looks lighter than picture appears.

Besides the nib creep, which goes hand in hand with Noodler's Inks, I think they have some of the best inks. Very lubricating and well behaved.

I know that Noodler's changed the shade of green for it's GI Green at some point after it was first released. I do not know if that is the cause for the difference from Brian Goulet's site.

What you have to consider for ANY pen is the amount of ink that it will lay down. Some pens are wetter than other pens. I have some ink stingy pens that lay down a light line for the Bad Belted Gator, while others will lay down a very wet and dark line of ink. Dont just judge off of one pen, unless thats the one you have.

I have the newer version. The first mix looks much more interesting.

Been using Noodler's since it burst onto the scene in 2004. I have lots, but the two colors I use most these days are bulletproof Black and "Navindigo" (a mix of equal parts Navy and Violet Vote, which used to be called Iraqi Indigo). I dilute them for quicker drying time.

Little lighter but yes thats what mine looks like. I have it loaded up on a Fine Platinum Preppy #3. Writes very smooth and wet. I like it.

I thought I would bump this thread. I believe since my last posting I have picked up the following

    Benevolent Badger Blue
    5 O'Clock Shadow
    Liberty Elsyium

I have an email inquiry to a Houston store about picking up the Texas Blue Bonnet.
