    Default Star de

There have been a number of STAR DE razors lately on the bay. They look cool and well built and seem like they would give a good shave. If anyone has ever tried one, where would it fit on the "Gillette Spectrum"?

A bit more aggressive than the average Tech. To me they seem to have the same heads as the Hospital and Club razors that show up from time to time on ebay, but they have heavier and better handles than those.

    Handles are great.

I sold a NOS one and regretted it.

I've seen them Labeled PAL with nickel plating.

The gold ones seem to go green, but they clean up.

I bought another for about $6 user grade all the way. It shaves well and holds a blade well.

Nothing special, but not a piece of junk.

The handle is heavy and someone just posted a pic somewhere of a mod with black finish on part of a gold one.

It is a small razor and pretty similar to a tech.

How 'fiddly' are they for blade loading? How appropriate would they be for converting people?

So it's an aggressive Tech with a better handle? Thanks! The build quality looks pretty decent.

No more fiddly than a Tech or any other three piece - you gotta watch yourself. One in good shape would be a fine first razor (or even an only razor) for most new guys.

Found one at an Flea Market. Looked nasty as all get out. Cleaned up nice though!! I must say its a solid built razor. If you find one get it you wont regret it.

I found a near mint Star on ebay. Spent little for it. As stated above it's close to a Tech but a bit more aggressive. Paired with a mild blade it's a good shaver.

I agree with auk. I replaced my tech with one since I like the look and feel of it.

Mine weighs 59 grams or 2.1 ounces on my kitchen scale.
It hit 60 grams the first few times before I tared the scale out to zero a few times.

Mine's never been used, still in box. The difference must be soap residue...

I guess I'll have to finally give it a whirl this week.

    LOl

    Perhaps.

Maybe I left some water in the handle.

Use it with a Feather. It's a good shaver.

The ring around the handle makes it very manageable. It gives you somewhere to rest your pinky, or in my case my ring finger.

The star d/e razors have awesome handles. Easiest upgrade you can make to an Old Style Gillette.
