New to DE Shaving.

I have just begun to shave with a DE razor. I was sick of the prices of the blades going up year after year. I purchased an Edwin Jagger DE89L and a best badger brush. The razor came with a sample pack of Lord blades. After reading this site for a few weeks I also bought a pack of feather blades. I have been using the Lord Chrome blades with good results and am not hacking my face up yet. I was wondering is the feather that sharp and am I going to butcher myself switching to the feather or should I keep practicing for a few more months.

Second question. Brush when drying Up or Down. My father says it doesn't matter he has used the same brush for 40 years simply throwing it on the shelf to dry.

1-I don't think that Feather is any better or worse, it's a razor blade and that's it. I don't find them that smooth and for the price, I think there's better. Can you still use it? Sure, it might be your favourite!

2-I dry mine down but had another one standing up and never had an issue. You need to make sure that you rinse your brush completely at the end and shake any water out. The last thing that you want is mold.

I personally found the Feathers to be a great blade for me. In fact, they are my favorite blades! I get very close and very comfortable shaves with them.

I set my brush facing up to dry.

Like he said: focus on technique and you will be successful regardless of the equipment you use. I prefer to dry upside down but I also remove most of the excess water before so I do not think that it matters at that point.

I'd suggest a blade sampler as a way to better razor technic. Each blade is a bit different. Feathers have a reputation ... and some like them. Have Fun!

Thanks for the help. Shaves are getting better each day. I will stick to the Lords until I master the technique. getting DFS but not BBS yet. Time will tell.

The EJ89L and Feather blade make for a perfect combination. The EJ is a fairly mild shaver and benefits from the sharper blades.

If you can get a comfortable shave with the Lord blades, there's no reason you couldn't do the same with the Feathers. Just watch the pressure.

After innumerable debates and discussions about the proper way to dry a brush, the overwhelming consensus is it doesn't matter! If you've got a stand, go ahead and hang the brush; if you don't, stand it up on its handle. Either way, it's going to dry in the same time.
