Default Sierra Trading Post - Arkansas Translucent Stone Deals

    FYI
There are some decent deals on the Arkansas Translucent stone. I realize this may not be the preferred stone for many individuals, but not bad for the price.

I get page not found as well.

However, if you're planning on using these stones for razors you need to make sure they are "first quality" stones, as the inclusions and veins in second grade stones will kill a razor's edge. They work fine for knives though.

I've never seen great or even decent deals on razor-quality stones. These seem to be nearly mined out, so 1st quality translucents in a decent size tend to be expensive - the ones I've seen are ~$300 for an 8x3 translucent.

I've also had better luck with pink translucents than with the normal grey translucents.

All the translucents on that page are seconds. Fine for knives, lousy for razors.

Handamerican sells translucents that he uses on his straights. He has very high standards with his products.

Looks like the Arkansas stones are not so great.
FYI folks I just purchased a Chinese 12K waterstone. This thing works like a charm, and the price 29.99 is just right at woodcraft.com
