  1. Default What is your favorite Bay Rum AS?

Interested in trying a Bay Rum AS, but there are many out there and not sure what would be to my liking. Was wondering which one is your favorite and which ones have you tried? I'm interested in one with a more natural scent and I can't stand aftershaves with a powdery scent.

Not that these are Bay Rums, but my favorite is DR Harris Arlington (love the efficacy and scent). I've also tried AV (can't stand it, overbearing and powdery), Speick (good medicinal qualities), Musgo Real (good, but leaves a film), and Alt Innsbrick (2nd favorite, nice cooling affect, scent is not great but grows on you).
Silence is Golden. Duct tape is Silver.

Ogallala Bay Rum! Personally I use the Bay Rum and Sandalwood, which if I had to describe the line, I would say organic. It feels great on the face, full of excellent skin goodies, and smells amazing - wholesome, rich, and "real" if that makes sense. Perfect for a fall day - My SWMBO always gives a positive reaction to it without me telling her what it is. Go for it!

So many good choices. Dominica is nice and St John's is my favorite but pricey. I do not enjoy Ogallala as much as other but the perfect price and it is a very nice Bay rum scent. A suprisingly pleasant one is The Shave Den's signature scent which is their Bay Rum blended with Bergamot. It mellows the BR down and it really is a nice scent. The price is also very nice. I would rather not tell you which ones I dislike but stick with the ones you see praised often and you wont go wrong!

Edit: Went to smell them again and Dominica is heavy on the clove scent but not a pure clove like say.....SCS. I prefer the "blended"bay rums personally but the clove is more of a true BR if that is what you are looking for. So many choices!!!!!

I like the Michelsen's which is orange and bay. You can get it from Caswell Massey website. A lot of things can have the subjective smell of powder, so it's hard to know what one individual may consider a powdery scent. The reason I like the Michelsen is that it does have the citrus element. However, I think you'll probably have to make an ivestment in various bay rums (and perhaps get samples if you can) and see for yourself.

I know Dominica gets lots of praise on this site, but for me...mehh, is OK, but not the greatest. It is also my wife's least favorite.

I am partial to Masters. Dirt cheap at Sally's, and if you don't like it, you are not out much do re me.

Also love the BR after shave balm from C. O. Bigelow available at Bath and Body Works.

Ogallala is also a favorite of mine. I am partial to Sage and Cedar variety.

Long story short, you may have try several before deciding on a favorite. That being said, I have yet to find one I would not use.

In the summer time I am really liking Superior 70 with a few drops of menthol. $2.99 makes for a heck of a deal.

I've only tried the Col Conk Bay Rum and Ogalalla Bay Rum with Sandalwood.
Personally, I like the Conk, it has more sting to it and I like the sharp smell. But, I probably won't buy it again. SWMBO compliments the Ogalalla whenever she smells it and does not like the smell of the Conk. The Ogalalla has less sting to it, is a more complex smell and has more goodies in for your face - just remember to shake it everytime before using.

I have only used Honey Bee Garden and Superior 70. The HBG has a nice long-lasting fragrance, but the herbal extracts used within mute the smell of bay laurel to a back-note.

Superior 70 is a great value and I love it. But its fragrance is gone in a mere five minutes, for me. It is perfect for a pure "aftershave" aftershave, as opposed to an cologne-y aftershave.

I'm a big fan of Ogallala as well. I prefer the limes and peppercorn, but really all of the fragrances John offers work well at different times of the year. Bay rum and sandalwood is a really great warming scent in winter, the sage and cedar is a great autumn scent and the limes and peppercorn is perfect for spring and summer (although it's my favourite and I wear it year round). They contain minimal alcohol and are mostly witch hazel based which is great for the skin.

+1 - smells amazing AND cheap, impossible to go wrong with this as a first BR scent. It's almost 1/3 the price of Masters and I find the scent last much longer.

    Hiya,

I've tried lots of bay rum scented items over the years and settled on colognes made by St Johns and Meehans as the two I prefer. I did try another version fairly recently that's now in my rotation as an aftershave. It's probably the most fun to use of em all.

It's made in small batches and not always available, using dark rum as the alcohol base. Nice blend of other notes to compliment the usual Pimenta Racemosa EO basenote . The scent is gone in a minute, so no conflict with any cologne or EdT.

I can quit at any time that I decide to. Unfortunately, I have NO control over when (if ever) that decision might occur.

I like authentic Caribbean Bay Rum made with P. racemosa, nothing more or less. Others preparations may be nice but they are not Bay Rum.
