Default Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster

I have been lurking here for a while and I thought I'd better join before I got drafted. So here I am.

I was a Gillette Sensor Excel holdout and finally upgraded to vintage Gillette DE razors about a month ago. Thanks to the great info I was able to glean from this site I haven't regretted my decision to make the switch.

I am a mostly local product shaver. I have picked up a couple of razors from ebay but everything else I have has been pieced together from local stores. It's amazing what is available that I never even noticed before I was enlightened by the users of this forum.

Thanks to all who contribute here. I only hope I can return the favor.

I'm curious as to what you have found locally. Welcome to the board!

    Razors:
My stable consists of only vintage Gillette DE razors but I have been able to pick up a couple locally. I found a Slim at one antique store for $10, a frankenrazor (contract handle with an open comb new head) for $1 at a consignment store and a 58 flair tip superspeed for $5 at another antique store.

    Blades:
This has been the most discouraging part of the "shave local" aspect of my kit so far. I have been using mainly some Walmart Wilkinsons and some supermarket brand razors from Korea (I am assuming they are Dorcos rebranded as "Best Choice") that were $.89/5 blades. I haven't ordered a sampler pack online yet but I have been meaning to.

    Brush:
I bought a burma shave brush that was sitting next to the blades I found at the supermarket but even with my untrained senses I knew it wasn't going to do what I wanted. Then one day while perusing the local Target I came accross the Shea Moisture Ultimate Shave brush which has been more than surprising for the price. I actually just went back and bought two more for backups.

    Shaving cream/Soap:
Jack Black Supreme Cream from Von Maur
C.O. Bigelow from B&BW (this is my favorite)
VDH Deluxe soap puck from Walgreen's (I just found 3 more @ $.75 each on clearance the other day so I picked them up)
    Williams Soap (Tossed in trash)
Hand made sandalwood puck purchased at the local farmer's market (used it as shower soap)
Shave Secret shaving oil from Walmart. I'm still trying to figure out if this makes a difference for me but I kind of like the smell so I use it anyway.

    Aftershaves:
I like to keep this simple so I only use Pinaud Clubman as a true aftershave. Sometimes I supplement that with the Bay Rum on occasion but never as a primary after shave. I like the scent of both of these as it reminds me of the barbershop from when I was a kid. Both were purchased at Walgreen's

Most of my purchases are based on my overwhelming desire for instant gratification. I hate, hate, hate waiting days for something that I paid money for today.

Well, if you can stand a little delayed gratification, how would a few blade samples and an Arco stick sound to you? Free of charge of course (aka...PIF)

Well alright. PM me your address, and I will let you know the day I ship it out. That way you will only have to camp out a maximum of 2-3 days. It's summer for god's sake!
