Question Lord Premium LP1822L compared to the Merkur 23C

On paper, the Lord Premium LP1822L seems to a pretty close clone of the Merkur 23C (Classic, long handle) : same blade gap, same head shape, almost the same overall dimensions.

If you own both, and only if you do, how does the two compare, especially in terms of aggressiveness and smoothness of shaves.

I don't own both...but can vouch for the 23c...I bought it mostly because of price but am very happy with it performance...its not all that aggressive because it is fairly light but the open combs add a degree of aggressiveness. Very smooth for me.

They are indeed close in head geometry. The Merkur has a heavier handle and deeper knurling which provides a somewhat better grip and also shifts the balance. Frankly I prefer the somewhat head-heavy balance on the Lord and didn't ever have any problems with its grip. Another thing; the Lord centers the blade evenly and perfectly every time while my Merkur doesn't. Not a real problem but strange that an almost 3 times more expensive razor can't be made at least as good in that respect.

FYI I shave most of the times with the Lord and use the Merkur as a travel razor. Except when I take the Lord on holiday too....Both are rather mild but capable of giving good 2-pass shaves nonetheless.
I must to the barber's, monsieur, for methinks I am marvellous hairy about the face

Not only you don't own a LP1822L, you don't own a 23C (close comb). You own a 25C (open comb).

    Thank you.

Strange that the blade doesn't align. Could it be you have a defective one?

They are easily mistaken one for the other.

I do not own the Merkur, have thought about it just haven't jumped yet. I do own the Lord L6 however. I did not like the light weight or balance that the razor had with the alum. handle. I modified it by shortening the handle approx 3/4 inch and drilling the handle out up to the rings close to the head, then inserting a press fit brass bar. The shorter and heavier handle changed balance and weight just to my likeing. The razor shaves excellent when used with good blades. I find Shark and Dorco as my go to blades at this time.

With all of the above said, I might add I also get excellent shaves with the super affordable YUMA. Plus when shined up with Flitz it turns into a fine looking razor, I also added the brass bar trick to the YUMA to add weight.

When compared to the other Merkurs I have it is within Merkur quality; none of them is perfect in that respect but it is no way so bad it makes them uncomfortable or unusable. Also the blade sticks out a little more on one side than the other; again not bad but easy to see, just not affecting the shave very much.

It was no issue, till I got my Mühles, Gillettes and Lords and started wondering why Merkur wasn't able to get it right.

I own both and I love the LORD. I got the 23c as a higher quality version. First off, the shave is the same. Brilliant. Not sure what agressive means, but botgh handle all blades thrown at them with no blood.

The handle on the Merkur is a bit longer, and is heavier as the LORD handle is aliminium. The finish on the LORD head is a bit rougher than the Merkur.

Both are great products. I use and reccomend them both to anyone, and would replace both if lost or damaged. I dont need another razor. I see the LORD as my travel tool now, although its still used regularly at home.

    Hope that helps

And since the new 20C is essentially a 23C with a black anodized handle :

    23C ~ 20C ~ LP1822L

I ordered the Lord a few days ago so I haven't had a chance to try DE shaving yet. If I like it I now have a better finished razor to upgrade to.

Surely, the Merkurs are better looking than the Lord. But, I am still not convinced they are better razors because their middle post is a few microns too small, allowing the blade to be off centre.

I think I will have to buy one the see for myself... or even upgrade directly to a Feather AS-D1.

That might be interesting but what I really would like to see is that they upgraded their distribution network in Europe; as far as I know they have an official importer in Hungary and that is about it. Some on-line vendors here carry some of their stuff for a short time and than you have to be looking out for a new supplier again.

What is the purpose of the slant?
