    Default Hey from Texas!

Greetings. I am a 40-year old father of twins who has been wet shaving with the disposables and the goop in a can for almost 20 years now. Before that, I used electric, because that's what my parents bought me when I started shaving.

I just got ghe OK to get the real deal from She Who Must Be Obeyed. So, because of budgetary concerns, I purchased the VDH premium shave kit. Using my wife's conditioner for pre-shave, and debating on the AS. Probably just witch hazel.

One thing I don't have yet is a DE razor. Don't banish me from the board yet, but I got the evil Gillette Fusion Pro Glide. We have some antique stores here in town, and a Market Day the first weekend of every month, so hopefully I will be the owner of a
good prior owned DE soon. If not, then I'm askng for a Merkur for birthday in August
    or for Christmas.

I've been lurkng for 3 days, decided to join, and have learned much just by reading. I am looking forward to interacting with all of you.

Howdy! I'm a Houston native --- and Aggie --- currently in Kansas City. Hope y'all are gettin some rain.

I started shaving with an electric in 7th grade and continued with that through college. About 8 years ago I started wet shaving like you --- disposables and goop. I've been DE shaving for about 2 weeks now, and I'm tellin ya... there is no turning back for me! I am not worrying too much about AS yet --- I take my extra lather and let that soak, and then do a cold rinse. The software is where you really start dropping cash --- not too bad to get some hardware up front.

Glad to have another noob from Texas on the boards!

Hey Jason, welcome to the B! Glad you found us, and glad you are transitioning to wet shaving with a DE. Lots to read here, as you have seen!

Welcome Sir! You will find that several gents use cartridge razors here. No ones gonna kick you out. This place is a wealth of information and alot of laughs.

Welcome! Making good lather is key to a great shave, whether it's with a DE or a 5 blade monstrosity. :) So get to work on that, and in the mean time, keep an eye on the BST (Buy Sell Trade) forum. You should be able to pick up a Gillette Tech or SuperSpeed for around $10 or $15 shipped, so that shouldn't break the bank.

If TX is anything like SC, you'll find that Antique Stores are unlikely to keep DE's in stock, and as such charge more for them because they are "collectible"...We're talking $20-30 for a broken, tarnished superspeed. Maybe people decorate with them? Anyway, maybe you'll get lucky and find a NOS (New Old Stock) boxed Fatboy for sell for $5.

Or if you ask nicely and be patient, somebody may pop up and PIF (pay it forward) a user grade razor. People are awesome like that here. (Sorry, don't have anything available right now)

And since you'll almost certainly pick up a DE eventually, go ahead and stop by westcoastshaving.com or thesuperiorshave.com and grab a blade sampler. Each blade is different and reacts differently to each person's skin, so try em all out!

    Default Thanks

Thanks for he warm welcome. For all those in Texas wondering where I am, just go south until you hear the cartel gunshots.

In Harlingen, about 30 minutes from the Mexican border.

I will work on the lather and check out the BST section.
