    Default The Cella/Starburst factor

    Morning all,
I received my first tub of cella last week and have been enjoying the meringue style lather immensely.

One thing that did surprise me is the scent. Most everyone I've had stick the tub under their nose reeled a little then said they couldn't pick the scent - then it hit me... It's red Starburst flavoured scent.

    Anyone else noticed the connection?

Man, I really need a good excuse to buy me some Cella. Sadly I have 7 soaps/creams on the go as it is.

I'm simply getting almond - which sits nicely in the spectrum of choices I've got on my counter. I really look forward to its turn.

+1 for making a starburst shaving soap. I'd shave with Cherry(red) in the 'noon and some lemon in the morn yum yum.

Still want to buy some cella though! and I enjoy almond so it sounds good.

My wife thinks Cella smells like Cherry Dr. Pepper, so red starburst may not be too far off!?!? To me, its walking into a pastry shop, and smelling Almond Buttercream frosting, which is a good thing...

    Default Olfactory culture

What something smells depends on your olfactory culture.

If your references are artificially flavoured foods and drinks (candy, soda pop, cakes, ...), then Cella will remind you of those. If you are used to Mazipan (almond meal + rosewater), then Cella will remind you of almond meal.

Depending on you olfactory culture :

    • Cella smells like Marzipan, Dr. Pepper, Play-Doh...
    • Arko smells Italian laundry soap, real citronella, weird lemons, urinal pucks...
    • Kiss My Face Vanilla Earth smells like real vanilla + mint or weird artificial vanilla with an off scent...
    • etc.

The interesting phenomena is when someone has never smelled the real odour of a natural ingredient (for instance, real vanilla), then describes it as "not right" because it doesn't fit to what he knows (artificial vanilla, vanilline).

This is exactly what I get. Of course marzipan has almond meal it in, so there is an almond scent to marzipan as well, but it is the sweet smell that sets it apart.

Never tried Cella, although I have eyed it a few times, I'll likely end up with it in rotation one day.
I love you Kana, now and forever. (Edit proposed by the lady herself.)

Traditionally, Marzipan is scented with rosewater. It is also similar to Maraschino, a liqueur made with crushed pits of cherries which give it a subtle almond flavor.

Almonds and pits of cherries are very closely related, scent wise, thus the Dr. Pepper references.
