Default Fusion Pro-glide Power vs DE

In Response to my previous thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...-DE-s-downfall

I have now bought a half price pro-glide power and am going to compare the shave to my slant tomorrow morning. It only came with one blade and I didnt bother buying any more as they were £20 for 6 - an absolute rip off!!!

    Wish me luck

    Next Update:
I'll try and post pics after the shave and then 1 day later first with the Pro-glide and then with the slant.

I'm gonna use the same prep and will use a new feather blade in the slant.

I'm quite excited to see what happens?

The other option is to shave one side with the proglide and the other with the slant. What do you think?

    1st Shave:

    Shower with facial scrub
    AOS pre-shave oil
Bowl and then face lather with Jermyn street and a super badger TOBS brush
    Fusion Proglide Power
    Jermyn street post shave balm

    Pre-shave pic:

    Pro-glide review:

The razor seems to drag and pull the hairs as it shaves. Its like shaving through treacle. At no point did I feel comfortable during the shave and was hoping it would end soon.

I felt razor burn after only my first pass but continued through my standard 4 pass shave on the face and 3 pass shave on the neck.

I have to say that on my face it as smooth (BBS) as my slant/feather combo, if not better.
But on the neck it is a completely different story. My standard 3 pass shave with a DE usually leaves me with a DFS. With the Proglide I wouldn't even call it a partially acceptable shave. Like many I have strange neck hair growth pattern and if I go ATG even with a DE I get very bad burn and ingrown hairs. As you can see from the pic's it barely touched my neck hair. It "Proglided" over the top of them. The shave was so bad that I've had to finish the neck off with my DE.

Overall I have to say it was an uncomfortable, rough shave which although good for the face was awful on my neck. It reminded me why I gave up shaving and kept permanent stubble for so many years prior to discovering a DE razor.

It may work for someone with softer hair but personally I wont be giving it another go. If anybody wants the Pro-glide handle (obviously without the used blade) I am happy to post it to you.

I'll post pics from the slant shave later on in the week as comparison.

Can't wait to see what you find. My vote goes to the Slant.

my thought is that you'll get a very nice shave as a result.. what i think you may find disappointing is the 'feel" of the shave process.

i have been looking for a on sale version to try out of curiosity.

If you're in the UK there is a promotional offer on at Boots where you can get a Proglide and 6 or 8 blades (cant remember) for £20. I kinda wish I had bought it. Not bad for value

The Proctor & Gamble Brand Saver coupon section in Sunday papers usually has a coupon for them. If there's a Kroger store near you, they generally have an electronic coupon for several dollars off you can load to your customer card at kroger.com. Other grocery chains may have similar deals. Gillette also offers coupons from their web site.

Just updated my original post. Let me know what you think. I endured the pain for the good of the B&B Community

I'm actually quite disappointed. I was expecting much better results and was hoping that their was some substance behind the hype

That was terrible results on the neck for the cost of the shave. It doesn't look like you shaved at all on your neck.

yikes, i don't know what to make of that "experiment". that seems contrary to what i would think normal results such that that the razor would have been able shave your neck.. if you felt razor burn immediately, perhaps there is something else at play... i would have really expected something else.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, I am interested to see how the Slant compares. You seem to have had a very similar experience to me when trying the ProGlide after years of DE shaving. In defense of cartridges, I think that there are better ones out there (with less blades and less goopy moisture strips).

Same here. I'm not sure why it didn't really shave well on the neck. I tried to use a no pressure technique. If I'd pressed down harder it might have been better. I think the blades are just too close together. I'm actually not so keen on trying again with the pro glide but to make the experiment fair I should really try one more time.

Did you have the same problem on the neck?

To make this fair I'm going to let the beard grow for 2-3 days before trying the slant out.

The technique is I think a little bit different with a cartridge, you have to put a little bit more pressure, but make sure to stretch the skin for the neck.
    But nice experiment!

Out of curiosity I went back and tried the Fusion with a fresh Proglide cart (last one in the house) last night before bed. I got an acceptable shave but the neck was challenging. On the cheeks, chin, upper lip, etc I got a fine shave, probably around DFS. On the neck, 95% of the surface area was close as well, but there were some spots that just got missed. I think it's a combination of the wide/tall/flat proportions of the Fusion head not being able to match the curves of the neck well. I actually came back and touched up with a DE. I found it dificult to find a good blade angle with the single blade on the back for touch-ups.

I would probably make due with the Fusion for travel, but I have a Vector/Atra on the way that I think will probably work better as well as be less expensive to operate.

Yes, sort of. I found the neck to be the most challenging, chin second. The Fusion could not manage to get into the crevasse that forms between the esophagus and the side of the jaw-bone (so, the area where a helmet's chin strap would go). It gave me some irritation, felt horrible during the shave, and left patches.
