Of course it's a disease-but at least I chose it!:thumbup1:

In fact, I don't look @ the SOTD because of them contributing to 'flare-ups', errr, relapses.

Great post ,Ron(look @ the shavee trying to keep an eye on the way she's wielding the blade and her 'assets' @ the same time-priceless!!!)

I tried my first photo this morning but it came out so dark you can hardly tell the QED shave stick, much less anything else in the photo. There's always tomorrow...

(apologies to Michael J. Fox)

Three things:
  • Tripod
  • Background
  • Composition
I bought an inexpensive table-top tripod over the Internet, from a Yahoo store. It's a Vanguard VS-86, and I love it.

Rather than buying different pieces of cloth from a fabric store (inevitably, there's a one-yard minimum), I originally fell into using a spare pillowcase (terra-cotta Egyptian cotton); but later on I began adding T-shirts to my "inventory". Most recently, I went to Target and bought standard-sized pillowcases in a variety of earthy colors -- wonderful!

Having that tripod and background material makes it much easier to compose my SOTD photograph. I'm still fascinated by the different ways in which I can arrange my silver razors and shaving mug so that there are multiple reflections; and then there are the other components: soap/cream, EDT, and others. There are lots of permutations, although by looking at my SOTD photos it's apparent that I tend to reuse only a small number of different "poses".

Correct and repeatable lighting is vitally important, and my next step is to build a light box, so that I can control the lighting and become more consistent in the quality of my SOTD photographs.

I most definitely believe that a photo of my SOTD setup adds immeasurably to the efficacy of my SOTD entry, and I continue to learn from others and incorporate their ideas about composition into mine.

Smooth shaving!
