Not sure what the culture is in the book, but in some real cultures, only warriors are allowed to use a sword. (Think Japan circa 1600)

Me too. I need to re-read the entire series for the next book to really make sense to me.

It is basically a midieval time period. But he was a sword master teaching a child to fight hence the wooden swords. He was allowed to carry.

I loved the way Khal Ripken ripped that guy's tongue out of the hole in his neck.

I strongly suspect he's had a finished draft of the next book in hand for the past three or four years at least, and was just waiting to land a movie or TV deal. It's no accident that the latest book is being released just in time for Game of Thrones miniseries withdrawal to set in...

I didn't catch this from the beginning (just a few plots). What I saw, I really liked a lot....Hope to see it in its entirety soon

I think that this is one of the best series I have seen in a very long time and I am very happy that there is going to be a Season 2.

    Yeah that was sick.
Not sure if it was last episode, but when Khal poured the molten gold over Viserys Targaryens head. You just knew it was coming.

I enjoy the series, and the book because it is different.

I have found that most fantasy stories are basically "Lord of the Rings part deaux". In other words, their plots are basically, a group of beings, who couldn't be more different, is assembled and must go do something.

    That is SO old.

Song of Fire and Ice is so far from that, it is great.

Hated this series at first--too much sex and violence, and endangerment of children, to no apparent purpose, it seemed to me. But now am absolutely hooked.

Great acting and actors (including the kids), writing, and plotting. Well-filmed with great locations and sets. Seamless special effects.

Peter Dinklage in particular seems amazing. Have always liked him, but he really gets to shine in this series.

HBO does a great good with its serieses (sp?). Showtime was good, but now seems to have fallen off, in particular, as if it is putting less into the writing.

Tyrion's face is supposed to be ugly, but I think with Dinklage (who is perhaps the most handsome male cast member) they hit the jackpot. He's absolutely perfect in my opinion. He fits what Tyrion becomes later I think, very lord-like and clever.

One thing I'm learning as I make my way through the series is to never like a character too much, because they usually die.

+1 I too am hoping that since the television series seems to be doing well that Mr. Martin will be induced to work harder on the books and get them finished in a timely manner.

I don't have HBO so have not seen the TV adaptation but have read all the books and really enjoyed them.

Thought that last episode was pretty good!

Although, the show seems to be too much violence lately, and not enough sex! (I am kidding about this last part. I have thought that the sex was sort of contrived in this series.)

Still a pretty good show, although I hate the idea of always being left hanging!

Also, I did not understand the significance of the old guy court advisor's sitting around while the hooker got dressed rambling on about how great a king Joffry was going to be. Are we seriously to believe that Joffry is a great kind in any way, at least that could be predicted at this point? He seems like a whiny punk to me, who could have been offed by being pushed off that "bridge."

I loved the series. It seemed like that last episode was only 30 minutes,I would liked to have seen a 2 hour season finale.

I do not like that they left so many things unanswered and I have to wait so long for the next season.

Reinforcing the idea that he is a doddering old fool on the edge of senility. Did you miss after the hooker left that he practically jumped up, straightened up, stretched out, then went back to bent over senile fool just before he opened the door and left the room?

    I liked that too.

We just downloaded the latest two episodes and watched them last night. It's picking up pace, I'm enjoying the show a lot, although I haven't read the books.
