Sorry if it sounds harsh, but no one is forcing you to watch the show, so um...deal with it or tune out?

Screenwriters have to work within constraints. In this case, they have ten 48-52 minute episodes in which to adapt a huge book with lots of little things that WILL be cast to the wayside. And sometimes, even create new things (in which case, shouldn't it be exciting for us to discover new stuff that wasn't in the original material?). That's why I don't envy writers who have to deal with fanbases....it must be brutal. When I read some of the nitpicky stuff on the Tower of the Hand website, I just have to shake my head.
I read something complaining about the use of a canoe instead of a raft, in which case, I agree with you. I have no doubt what I put in the spoiler spot of my previous post will happen, as every time they've gone another direction, they've come back into place. I don't mean to sound unhappy, because I'm not. Maybe I didn't elaborate enough. Season 1 followed the book pretty darned close, so I'm just surprised to see this season venture in other directions a bit more, and having read the books this time around, unlike last time, it throws me off while watching it.

The "no one is forcing you to watch the show" bit was a little uncalled for.

Why is it uncalled for? It's patently true. It can't be any more clear-cut than that....HBO is not forcing people to watch Game of Thrones.

    [Spoiler deleted]

At this point in the series, the events you referred to haven't happened yet, since it's following the plot line of the second These events happen in later books.

This last episode was fantastic. It is hard to believe we only have one episode left in this season.

I enjoyed the first season, but found it a little hard to follow. So I picked up the books, and haven't been able to put them down. Just started number three today!

Season 3, if it follows the books, will be the litmus test for non-reading viewers. I still talk to people who have no idea what's coming, and I KNOW they'll hate it when it does. But will they stick with the series after it?

I am not involved in the books at all but I hate having to wait to see what happens so which books are out, what are their names and in what order do I read them? I have lots of time to read so I'll probably catch up!

There are a few others yet to be published, but that's the list so far, in order.

Indeed. I really hope they don't cop out, even though sticking with the story would totally harpoon the commercial viability of the series. Even I am dreading the seasons that cover books 4 and 5.

That is seriously the hardest part of the entire series to read, and probably the most shocking...They have to stick with the book events in this case, or else they would have to virtually rewrite the rest of the series.

I have not gotten to SSN 2 yet, but I'm usually able to take a fair amount of deviation from the books. What irks me is when they change or leave stuff out early on, then the omissions compound upon themselves later on. This is especially bad in long series.

I am pretty sure I know what you are referring to, and I have read that season 3, which will cover half of book 3, ends with that.

If people could handle the ending of season one, then I am sure this will be ok.

Only half of season 3? Good lord, it'll take decades to get this whole series done. By that time the actresses playing Sansa, Arya and Daenys will all need facelifts.

To slightly deviate from the flow of things here, for an occasional bit of amusement, there's a weekly recap of sorts on ESPN's website under the Grantland section. It's pretty amusing stuff.

I apologize that I'm late to the thread here, would have been better info at the beginning of the season, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hopefully not. Since they are 16, 15, and 25 respectively I think HBO can afford to delay the seasons long enough to give the Fat Man in the Hat long enough to finish the last books in the series (if he ever does).

Sort of reminds me of how Robert Jordan's series suddenly started getting longer once he realized he had a cash cow on his hands.

Quick question on Season 2, Episode 10. Why did the other Crow/hostage north of the wall pick a fight with John Snow? It didn't seem like he was truly hateful, but maybe I missed something.

One more - who burned the castle above the crypt? If the dudes knocked out Theon, did they do it out of spite, or did the advancing soldiers burn down the castle that they intended to retake?
    Cheers, Jeff
