    Default PREP from Italy

I recently picked up a jar of PREP cream and the after shave balm. I was amazed at the really wonderful smell of both. I mistakenly thought the cream was shaving cream, but upon arrival, found out it wasn't.

I used the cream as a post cream and really liked it. A little went along way and my skin really liked it. It's also good for all kinds of skin problems and irritations like insect bites and sunburn. The packaging is very old school retro and looks cool on my bathroom shelf (added bonus).

Has anyone else tried it and what have been your results?

I use the cream sometimes, find that it makes my skin feel smoother without making it oily.
I don't think much of how it smells,i notice some ammonia background behind the camphor but the smell fades away quickly enough so this is not a big issue.

In Italy PREP is one of the two alternatives to Proraso pre/post, the other being 3P.

To sum up,it's inexpensive and it's effective.
And I like the shining sun on the box.

I've seen the 3P and have that on my wish list -- just waiting for it to come back into stock.

I used the Prep after shave balm this morning for the first time. I like the smell, but it seems to leave my face oily (I have oily skin to begin with normally steer away from balms as they seem to compound the problem).

    What's the 3P smell like?

I don't know, 3P is usually only used by barbers.
    This is the composition:
    Aqua-Stearic Acid-Paraffinum liquidum-Camphor-Glycerin-Cetearyl Alcohol-Ammonium Hydroxide-Phenol-Sodium Borate-Menthol-Benzyl Alcohol-Methyl Salicylate-Parfum.

Guess it should not be much different than PREP or a much diluted BENGAY (camphor, menthol, methyl salicilate...)

Thanks for that. I gotta admit, contrary to popular belief, I'm not a big fan of BenGay. But, will have to give it a go. Yet one more thing in my arsonal.

Am I having a distorted deja-vue or did there used to be Prep here in the USA back 30 yrs or so? I distinctly recall something that stunk like Noxema in a big white tub and I swear it was called Prep.

Not sure of that, but it does have a familiar Noxema tinge to it.

I useds Prep as an aftershave when I was in Italy two months ago. One day during swimming I got a very nasty jellyfish sting (scars still visible on my left arm ). Only a thick layer of Prep (and instant immersion in the bidet )could soothe the burn.
Moral of the story: if it can alleviate such tremendous skin injury, it must be suitable to help fight a little razor burn...

Didn't Charles at QED used to sell Prep? I wonder why he stopped?

    Default Prep

Does anyone know where I can get some Prep? I used it faithfully from 1950 to 1990 but am unable to find it anywhere. Thanks. Bozak
