Default What is it about Ebay sellers????????

OK so today I receive a new gold aristocrat . that looks great But the genius seller sends it to me with an old rusted blade loaded on to the razor what is wrong with people is it that hard to just take it out ?

Now all of you may be thinking NO it is not why dont you just do it yourself well i did .

I was so happy to see my new razor that while trying to rip all the bubble wrap off of it I ended up getting a small cut. now dont forget the blade is old and has rust on it who knows who used it before I got it.

I bought an ebay lot of about 12 or so razors not too long ago and the 40's style SS had an old blade in it. I noticed it before anything bad happened but I'm still trying to get some of the old rust stains off it - frustrating because the rest of the razor cleaned up pretty well.
Just something you have to watch for every time I guess

This is too freakin funny-- right as I'm reading this post the mailman walks up and delivers a new FatBoy. I take it out and sure enough-- rusty blade left inside! Never happened to me before. But hey-- $20 shipped for a FatBoy with case & blades in great condition... I can't complain!

It's not just eBay, I've bought razors in thrift shops that still had blades in them. I think sometimes though, with the eBayers, they look at it as making it more desireable or marketable, like it's got the original blade, and you're going to restore it. Reminds me of people selling guitars with "the original strings" (like they're any good) and once I saw someone selling a vintage car "with the original oil" as if that was desireable (or proveable).

  9. Default rust

Squirt a little WD-40 on it and an old toothbrush will remove the rust easily.

Well, since hygene is now an issue, I'd better comment ...

I have terrible luck with e-bay sellers and buying razors ... every single one came with a blade. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a Boker or a W&B or Henckels, Dubl Duck, whatever ... every single one came with a blade!

    Sheesh!!
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!

Funny you should mention that... The only razors I've bought on eBay so far came with a blade... but no handle!

Gonna make my own handles, though...

Interesting that you should bring this up Nick. Most sellers, not being experts, don't realise the harm that old blade is or can do by sitting in there like that. If it's a razor I'm interested in and I learn there's a blade in it I always ask the seller to remove it and explain why. They seem glad of the advice and always thank me. I've started including it in my "boilerplate" questions that I send on razors I might be interested in as lately I am starting to see this more and more.

Mark would you not say it is common sense that an old rusty blade may cut the person trying to take the bubble wrap or newspaper razor wrapped with .

We are talking about personal hygiene products if a blade was loaded into the razor they sold chances are who ever they got the razor from used it what would make them think that the next buyer would like to have that?? Not for nothing when we buy these old razors we have no idea what kind of illness the original owner had .

    Nick,
I take your point about the danger the blade represents to someone unwrapping a razor. A blade rusting away beneath the silo doors does the razor no good either. Since you cut yourself, I am sure you disinfected the wound and are watching it for signs of infection. You can take some comfort in the fact that there isn't much in the way of nasty microbes that would find the surface of a blade pleasant lodging. Still it is best to err on the side of caution. Take care.
