Default HD Vs 38C Grip Question

Basically, I love the handle on the Slant. By far, the favourite of all my razors. This makes me want a HD but was wondering how the grip feels between that razor and the 38C. I don't want or need both, and trying to decide what I should get.

The 38C has spiral chequering. It's quite a bit heavier than either the slant or the HD (which weigh about the same and have the same handle). For me, the weight and spiral engraving made the razor twist in a wet hand. Others really like it a lot. It's probably worth an experiment. I fear the HD might not be very exciting after the slant.

    Thanks for the response Michael.

If that's the case, I will probably stay away from the 38C and go with a HD (a gold one if I can find it).

I'm not really worried if the HD isn't as "exciting" as the Slant. That weapon isn't one I would / could use every day but I love the grip. No matter how lightly you hold it with your fingers, it will almost never slip. Maybe the HD would quickly move above the Fat Boy, the Aristoctat and the Futur on my list of favourite razors.

Well I own the 38C and the HD. The HD was my first razor but if the 38C existed then, I woulld have bought it. I like the weight, length and balance of the 38C. The weight forward design makes it more aggressive than the HD. It's a really good looking razor and I haven't had any problem with the grip. Just my opinion.

The HD is readily available in gold from, e.g., Em's Place, QED, and Lee's Razors. I have it (and the Slant Bar) in gold: quite handsome.

    Jim,

I'll vote "against the grain" here and suggest the 38C. The HD was my first razor, and I love it. And I also enjoy the slant. The 38C would offer up a bit of variety as the slant and HD are quite similar.

I really like my 38C and don't have the problem that leisureguy seems to have. If you want something a bit different (and a bit more expensive), but with the same head as the HD and 38C, and which has a long handle as the 38C does, but is not as heavy as the 38C, try the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth DE/safety razor. I have the EJ Chatsworth in faux ivory and it's right there with my 38C as my favourite razor.

I find it more awkward and painful (yes my hand cramps) with the HD over the 38c. I actually get less irritation and better shaves with my 38c. I attirbute this to the extra weight and it is more comfortable to shave with so I tend to not rush cause of my hand aching.

That is what I did... I ordered the HD fell in love... then bought the 38c and hated it the first 5 shaves. I thought it was the razor but it was my technique. I am now in love the 38c and not too found of the HD but then again... I might try it again one day and just fall back in love. Get them both... they look "sexy" in a rack.
