Default Help IDing an old Gillette

I have just bought this razor from ebay on a whim (haven't actually received it yet), and cannot seem to identify it. All it said was that it was a Gillette, and the box it comes in is silver (not sure if the razor itself is silver plated too, but I think it is).

Any ideas? I will try and get better photos when I actually receive it.

    Gilette Tuckaway.

Many folks on the boards enjoy shaving with these. Good luck with the cleanup, and enjoy.
    Cheers, Dave

Many thanks! I'm not so confident it will clean up too good, as i'm fairly certain that is a large area of wear, as opposed to grime... but i'll have a good go!

Those are triple-silver plated. If someone hasn't used it to drive nails, it should clean up very nicely for an 85-year-old razor. I have two of those, one gold, one silver. The Tuckaway is one of the best early Gillettes. The little handle balances well (even in my big hand) and the New Improved head shaves great! The diamond pattern on the handle is also nice to look at while providing a secure grip. Last but not least, they're still pretty cheap on ebay. (No, I'm not selling mine!) Oh, be careful when you take that out of the case; it looks like it has a blade in it!

    +1!

I have about a dozen Gillette razors & shave with them all. The Tuckaway is one of my favorites. I get a close, comfortable shave with mine. The eBay prices of these are going up as they have been "discovered" by shavers & collectors, so it's a good thing you got one now.

    Enjoy it,

Most Tuckaways also have a serial number that can be used to determine what year it was manufactured. I believe all of the razors like yours came from the 20s. I wonder how many Mach 3 or Fusion razors will still be in use 80 years from now?

Physically received the razor now. Unfortunately there are large areas where the silver plating has worn to reveal the brass(?) underneath. It is mechanically sound though, so I look forward to giving it a good clean and shaving with it.
