    Default Looking for input!

So I decided to go the DE route to shaving to see if I would like it better than cartridge shaving. So I was wondering what people thought about the

Merkur HD 43C Heavyweight Stainless Steel Safety Razor

I tried looking for antique razors on online auction sites and could not find any. And I bought this before I found this site. So If I could get "customer feedback" on this merkur I would appreciate it. Thanks!

The Merkur 34c is pretty much the most recommend first razor, along with the EJ 89, the 43C have the same head as the 34c.

You need to improve on your eBay searching skills, there's like a bazillion old razors there!

Try searching "Gillette safety razor" or Gillette DE".

    And welcome to B&B!

    Welcome to B&B!

I think you mean the 34c? It's a good razor. Pick up a sample pack of blades, too, and a good brush and cream. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index...s_do_I_need.3F might help too.

    Welcome aboard!

I say start with either the Merkur 34c, or the 43.

It would be a smart choice to check out the Edwin Jagger EJ89 series razors too. They are IMO, one of the best values in all of wetshaving. Just a great smooth, razor with a nice smooth price tag, and a nice smooth chrome finish, that will blind u!

Good luck, u really cant go wrong with any of the razors mentioned in this thread, they are all cant miss purchases.

I also agree with the razor blade sample pack, thats almost mandatory IMO.

Have fun! Let us know what u end up getting! And pics too!

+1 on the Edwin Jagger DE series. Very nice look, nice shave, and decent price tag.

If you want to spend a bit less, you may also try a Feather popular. Also a nice shaver, and goes for about $18 at west coast shaving.

Merkur 34C and EJ89 are both fine razors. The Merkur is slightly more aggressive, and for me gives the better shave. Can't go wrong with either really.

I Prefer the Merkur 34C over the EJ89

Welcome, Leapor68! The Merkur HD was my first DE and I highly recommend it. Vintage Gillettes, such as the Super Speed, are nice too.
