Default Gillette Fat Boy vs Slim versus Super Adjustable - a Poll!

For those of you who have both of these, I'm curious to know which you prefer and why. Both are very highly rated in the reviews section.

There is not 'other' because I'm not interested in comparing these to other razors in this particular thread. Just a head-to-head between the Fat Boy and the Slim.

Which? And why? Inquiring minds want to know.

Just my 0.02NKR, before I went looking for a Slim on eBay I spent some time going through various threads on the same subject, and got the impression people owning both Fatboy and Slim liking the Slim most, so it was an easy choice, and $18 later I owned a great user Slim. Ugly but functionally perfect.
And a great razor, for my first Slim shave I started on 6 with a Schick, WTG, XTG, XTG and set it on 3 for an ATG for my neck, great great shave.
Now yesterday I got a bit too confident and cranked it to 9 with a Feather, and while I got a incredibly close first pass, I should have turned it down again , because after the first XTG pass my neck was burning like hell! Haha, so I learned my lesson the hard way.

Of the Slim and the Fatboy, I prefer the Slim.

Never tried the Super Adjustable, though.

But the Slim is my everyday razor. I haven't felt the need to look further; I've been using the Slim for about a year now. Love it.

    Cool SLIM gathers dust

I liked my Slim enough to PIF the Fatboy last year.
However with so many GEM razors my Slim gathers dust these days.
I may have to make it my travel razor.

I voted for the FB only because it predates the slim. I like all things old.

Don't like the bulky head on the FB. Don't like the handle on the SA. The Slim works much better for me. I can get a DFS from any of the three, just like the Slim the best of those poll choices.

It's a close one for me. I give the edge to the Fat Boy based on the feel. Both deliver a DFS, unless I'm in a hurry.

Fatboy is more finicky, more expensive, more difficult to find the right setting, blade angle, and right blade to use, but it is more aggressive and gives me a better shave

Slim is cheaper, easier to use, and a very, very good razor in its own right.

The SA is good, and shaves nearly identical to the slim. But it lacks that hefty, solid gillette-quality construction found on the other 2

I give my vote to the fatboy, but I use my slim more often

I think the fact that the slim was produced for more years would make it easier to find a good example at a more reasonable price than the Fatty. The super is a newer model you would think it would be easy to find one in great shape.

I voted Fatboy because I prefer the "density." I tend to hold my razors closer to the head, and I like that the FB packs its weight into a smaller space -- just feels better in my hand than the Slim or the long- or short-handled Super Adjustable. That said, I can get a great shave out of any of these, though I really don't like the later SAs with plastic baseplates on the head. They just feel too flimsy to me.

You also need to factor in that the Super Adjustables were made when DE razors were already in decline, though. There were probably fewer of them made each passing year, and they were certainly cutting corners on materials and build quality as the line matured.

Slim vs FB: I preferred the weight balance of the Slim and the head is slightly lower profile, hence more maneuverable. All told I think it's a more practical, well designed razor while the Fatboy is a bit of a dinosaur. Aesthetically, however, the Fatboy has a certain je ne sais quoi; it looks like a Cold War relic. The Slim's lines are more genteel.

Had both and I chose the Slim.

Thanks for the replies! I'm a noob, so don't know much about these, and I have not used my FB yet. I assumed it had the same head as the Slim with the shorter stubbier handle. Reading these responses made me realize I was wrong. I just went up and compared them side by side.

That FB head is really meaningfully larger than the Slim. I have used my Slim twice, getting used to it. Fun thread for me, thanks again for the comments!

I like the weight of the FB but for all practical purposes don't see much difference between the shaves I get from the slim or FB. Both are good razors. Never tried the SA, however.

The Slim. Better constructed than the SA and shaves better than the Fatboy. :)

Fatboy. I like heavier razors, is is the best constructed of the three, and the design looks more solid somehow. Plus, like Eric, I like older things ..

I've used all three & find the fatboy gives me more pleasure overall, as well as a very good shave with the more agressive settings.

Very slight edge to the Slim, still a lot of love for my FB!

Fatboy is the heaviest, and the handle-length works better for me. It also shaves me a bit smoother in the higher adjustment settings.

The one complaint is that it's too fat to hang in my normal razor stand. But, then again, it's pretty stable when standing up on it's own handle.
