    Default Swiss Chard recipies?

    I love Swiss Chard.
Had some last night and it was yummy.
Does anyone have a good recipe for it?

All I do is cook it in a fry pan with onion and garlic.
When it's almost done, I add a little balsamic vinegar and sugar.

Sometimes I omit the vinegar and sugar.
That's the only way I know how to cook it.
I do the same with beet tops.

I love chard too especially and usually simply prepared as you've mentioned.

    Here's one for stalk lovers.

Deep fried Swiss chard stems with Fontina cheese.

Separate leaf and stems and blanch for a minute or two.
Split a large stem down the middle or use two stems and use a medium hard melting cheese to make stem cheese sandwich.
Flour, egg, crumb and repeat and then deep fry for a few minutes to color.
Serve with remaining sliced leaf and stalks dressed with a shallot vinegarette and parmesan.

Saute with garlic and olive oil.

    Finish with Oyster Sauce.

    Marc,

Replace the onion with shallots and add a little bacon!

    Default Tart

Chard makes a very nice savory tart, Italian style with Parmesan cheese, kind of like a thin quiche without so many eggs. There are lots of recipes online, look around till you find one that you have all the other ingredients for, lol.

I find chard a bit too delicate and fresh in flavour to stand up to garlic directly. Same with onions. RTaylor61 nailed it with the shallots. Bacon sounds... interesting. Thing with that is, chard has a natural saltiness to it, so that could be tricky. But, oddly enough, Parmesan seems to work very well with it, either in a quiche, as TickTock suggested, or just sprinkled over at the end of the saute.

The balsamic and sugar (and oyster sauce) sound so completely counter intuitive, and hence fascinating, that I'm going to have to try them asap.

With bacon and garlic and pasta is great. The first time I ever had Swiss chard was at a friends farm . . . a basic soup with beans and back bacon in chicken stock.

In a medium to large pan, saute some garlic and shallots in oil and butter until they become translucent. Add clean, chopped chard and saute until it wilts down. Add salt and red pepper flakes. Then add a can of tomato sauce and simmer the chard for 10-15 minutes. Serve topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. It's to die for.
