Does Shorter Knot = "Tighter" Bloom (generally)?

I have the VDH boar brush that comes with the set (the new, nicer set). I like the brush. I am considering buying a couple more brushes. Again, I like the VDH brush but in looking for more brushes I want one with a tighter bloom (my description for lack of a better term). Meaning the hairs don't flare out so much when lathering. Perhaps this is what people are referring to by "backbone"? Still new to this so any input would be appreciated. Also, any suggestions on such a brush?

Bloom is caused by many variables...direction of the hair when the knot is tied, the thickness/diameter of the hair used, the loft, and to some degree the density of the knot itself...all contribute to the final bloom/splay of the brush.

Grab any of the mid-sized 2-band varieties in a medium loft (e.g. 22mm knot 48mm loft) and you should be good to go. Once you use a few brushes, you'll begin to appreciate what works best for you...
