I'm a software engineer at a large healthcare software firm located in Kansas City, MO. (Guess which one) :) I specialize in C/C++ Unix/Linux server development. I have a passion for all things Linux, been using it for seven years now.

Right now, as far as the billpaying goes, I'm a junior financial analyst for a firm in torrance, ca that handles healthcare facilities. Other than that, I'm a student trying to edge towards graduating with degrees in accounting, business marketing, and minor in political science. Recently, I've started to train for surf contests again, I put that way on the backburner for school and work a couple years back.

I'm a high school English teacher. I also edit dissertations and theses for graduate students on the side. Basically I read student writing all day long until I'm nearly blind, then come home and start reading what everyone writes on this forum. I'm impressed with the breadth of all our backgrounds and the general satisfaction with their jobs and education you all seem to express. Like Joseph Campbell said, "Follow your bliss!"

Just realized what I want to do for my next career...I'm getting a little old for the whole rescue swimmer bit, (I like the jump from the helo, but all the other crap you have to keep up is pretty intense) so when I get free from Uncle Sam's clutches, I want to be one of those resort "testers" like you see on the Hotels.Com advertisements....
Man, now THAT would be a racket...

Lawyer. I head up a small firm that represents businesses with respect to financing and general corporate matters -- about 70% of our clients are high-end restaurants. I eat well

I am the autocratic head of state for a small insignificant Eurpoean Country with a population of 748 men, 822 women, 2,249 children, 197 elderly, and 2,099,817 goats. We are a tax haven for the wealthy and currently have over 9,700M USD held in my vault. I like to spend all the money that these fools deposit on fast cars, shaving products, hallucinogenic drugs, audio-visual entertainment systems, loose women with large breasts and low morals, and private jets. We boast a beautiful coastline where all women must bathe topless. Obese women are banned from the beach. We like our water sports here. We also have a fine mountain region where snow sports are enjoyed by the wealthy few (mostly my family.) Children are encouraged to leave school at the age of eight and sweep chmineys or support the industrial effort by working in factories producing cluster bombs and other munitions for various other nations. I have 366 wives (one extra for the leap year) and 1,872 children (do not ask me for all their names, I don't know what half of them even look like.) I seized power in 1982 at the age of six in a bloody coup d'etat. I am an anaesthetist in my spare time for the world's second largest employer (the NHS, second only to the Chinese Army.)

Wow, I am highly impressed with you gents. Been kind of hesitant to post in this thread, but what the heck. I've been a cop for 25 years. I've done some neat things during my career, but I think I saved the best for last. I've been a bomb technician for the last 6 years. To be honest though...I'm gettin to old for this.

In San Francisco, too. You DO eat well. I think I would put that city almost up with NYC for food in this country.

Sometime I might want to talk to you about what small firm life is like. I think I will grow weary of megafirm eventually, and I have often considered what it might be like to move to a smaller setting and eventually have my own firm.
