Cleaning red tip?

I picked up a red tip today for $5 at an antique store. Works good but just needs a good cleaning. I usually use scrubbing bubbles to clean old razors I pick up, will that mess with the red paint on the tip?

I use a soft bristled toothbrush and dish soap with hot water to clean all of my dirty finds. Check out the thread in this forum about the rusted jewel I posted today. I cleaned that one up pretty well with the toothbrush/ soap combo. Just remember to be patient and don't scrub too hard. As for scrubbing bubbles, it should be okay to use but I can't promise it won't effect the red paint. Good luck!

I use whitening toothpaste (it has a little mild abrasive) and a toothbrush. Go easy on the painted ends. If the mechanism needs help, boil a kettle, add a little dish soap and soak for 20 min or so before scrubbing.
