Default Tie Tack v. Tie Bar v. hanging loose

I'm a tie bar kinda guy. I hate it hanging too loose, but not enough to get one of those tacks. What about you all? Any opinions or input?

I am very glad that tie bars/clips and tacks are making a come back. I prefer tie bars-I always feel I'm hurting my tie with a tack (even though they go between the fibers and don't). They have a great retro cool look and serve the very practical role of keeping you tie from flopping into things as you move, bend over etc.
A combination of clean elegance with a vague forboding of dread is attractive.

I'm not huge on tie bars, but that is based on my desire for symmetry. I have used tie tacks before and they do what they are supposed to. The only issue is I don't like the hole they leave on the front of the tie. If I want to wear that tie without a tack, I don't want a visible hole on it.

My solution is to use a safety pin on the back of the tie. It keeps everything in place and lays flat. Plus, there are no visible holes.

Loose for me....the number of times I have to wear a tie per year doesn't justify getting any. I have my own business so it's pretty much weddings and funeral only for me.

As a kid I'd always used a tie tack it was just part of getting ready for church. I never really cared if my tie dangled I just hate it when the little tail end of the tie sticks out to the side. Lately I've been using a modified atlantic knot that leaves a short tail so I don't worry about it.

I like the tie bar, too. When I was in Seoul, the Korean businessmen all wore tie bars high on the shirt, so that when the jacket was buttoned, the tie bar was visible. These guys were the epitome of fashion. That's how I wear mine now and the other guys around the office have started adding tie bars worn this way, too!

I wear a suit at least once a week, usually when I preach on Sunday mornings. I always use a tie tack....but I use the tie tack on the backside of the tie, usually on the label that I slip the smaller end of the tie through. That way my tie doesn't run off on me, but at the same time I'm not piercing one of my nice ties. YMMV.

I used to use tie tacks, but switched to bars once I started wearing ties more often. I didn't like the idea of poking holes in nice silk ties.

I have worn the same tie tack for forty two years. I was the ring bearer at my uncle's wedding when I was five years old, and that was his gift to me. (I wore it with my little clip-on tie that day.) If I were to lose it, I don't know if I'd want to even try to replace it. I'd probably have to go tieless. . .

I like tie bars better visually, but the tack seems to do a better job.

    Thumbs up

I don't use a Tack or Bar, but a Tie Chain with a Mustard Seed.

I have regretted that everytime I have poked a hole in a tie.

I find that tie bars tend not hold very well and to fall off, so I have lost some.

Tie bars are an occasional thing to me. If I have a gig that required bending over alot so my tie might fall into something I might wear a tie bar more often.

Used to use a tie bar - 50 years ago. Used to use a tie tack - 40 years ago. Since then I put the back part of the tie through the loop provided and call it good! Neat, clean, no holes.
