    Hi All,

Managed to kind a straight. Kropp. There was sime superficial rust on it that I cleaned out with soap and a 3M scour pad.

I'm off to my old time barber to take lessons in honing and stroping. Seems like a good clean razor. Looking forward to my first straight shave.

Although Kropp razors all seem uniformly plain, they are excellent shavers. You should enjoy the razor very much.

I agree with hawkeye5, nothing great to look at, but wonderful shavers, a kropp was the 1st vintage i ever found in a antique shop, i cleaned it up and sent it to gary haywood, a year later i am still using it, a few touch ups, but as yet, no rehone, its a marvellous razor, and holds an edge soooo well, in fact, thinking of picking another kropp up this is one of my best shavers.

Kropps are absolute rubbish - why would anyone want to buy such an old piece of junk?

OK - now for anyone who's read past the first sentence:

I found one on ebay at a bargain price a few months ago. I'm talking less than $20. Just tried to buy another and they've tripled in price, it seems. Next thing we know, Lynn Abrams will mention how wonderful they are to hone and...

What, he's already done that? Damn.

Mine honed up to a hair-poppingly sharp edge. It smoked my Dovos (both carbon and SS models) and a NOS Seal Helgund. My Dovos just wouldn't behave on the hone. The Kropp was a cinch. I was lucky as mine had a slight smile to the edge. Some others on the bay appear to have frowns which would make it a bit trickier to get right.

The scales are rubbish and keep bumping the toe of the blade when closing but I can't complain coz it feels so good shaving with it. The 6/8 has the perfect weight and balance if you like that touch of extra heft.

But now we've started this bloody thread, we won't be able to afford them anymore! So let's agree to keep this one under wraps OK?
