    Default VITO'S aftershaving

tried vito's "aftershaving" A/S this morning...what a revelation !! I have often wondered what pinaud and the other great aftershaves smelled like before 1923,when the very first synthetic hit the market.this was a womans perfume, chanel #5,and it was a world wide smash, still is as a matter of fact...I imagine if I could go back in time, the original barber shop aftershaves would smell just like vitos aftershaving lotion...it is the perfect barber scent, big, powerful and exquisite powder aroma, kissed with a touch of musk and spice....the dry down is spectacular...no off-scent,malodorous afterburn here..this stuff is simply great !.I have already decided, out of the 50 or so aftershaves I have tried over the last half century, this is my #1 choice....If you want "vintage tonsorial" aroma on your mug,you definately require vitos "aftershaving" in the 400ml bottle...

Well this just pushed me over the cliff...order sent to Italian barber, together with razorock aftershave balm and a brick of vitos coconut.

I couldn't even wait to hear if the Vitos smells at all like Floid Amber! No willpower, none what-so-ever.

I'm hanging on by my fingernails, now. That sampler (in 100ml bottles, cripes!) is crooning the siren-song....

BEWARE: the sampler is of the Vitos Classica, which is NOT the same juice as the above pictured 400ml Vitos Aftershaving. I almost got succored by this as well. It's a different scent.

yes !! for sure ...completely different...if you want vintage powder, the bottle labeled "aftershaving" (NOT aftershave) is the one you want..

Thanks for the heads-up, I can see now this is not the Vitos Colonia line. I was stuck in "look at the pretty colors!" mode.

How does it compare to Floïd (amber) scent-wise?

So my order from Italian Barber arrived yesterday, and I tried the Vitos Aftershaving for the very first time this morning.

The verdict? This is really wonderful stuff! It has a scent that I have not yet encountered in the world of shavedom. I'll get to that in a second. I have never tried the Italian Floïd (amber), but I emailed Joe at Italian Barber to ask if it has a similer scent. He said that Vitos Aftershaving is very similer, but is more sweet and has more citrus.

Now on to the scent. What I get is spicy orange candy on a powder background. It is really a comforting, delicious smell. Definitely old time barber shop mixed with an old-fashioned confectionary shop. Remember those hard candy sticks, the ones that were white and color swirled with fruit flavors? That's what Vitos Aftershaving smells like with spice and powder. Yum! The scent also hangs around for about 3-4 hours on me - decent longevity for an aftershave.

(sidenote: despite my scent description, it does not smell like Florida Water at all, which is a scent that I can never really decide whether I like or not)

As far as efficacy, it's a fine alcohol based aftershave splash - slightly more moisturizing than most. There's definitely an alcohol burn at first, but it goes away surprisingly quickly. There's also plenty of glycerin in there, because it is moisturizing as well. The closest thing to it in terms of consistency and feel that I can think of is probably Aqua Velva. Actually maybe it's a mixture between aqua velva (the burn) and boosters (moisturizing) - maybe Vitos is just a tad thicker than both of these splashes. The one big exception is that there is no menthol in Vitos.

A final thought: the bottle is high quality. Thick, sturdy glass. And I also really like the fact that although it's a large, thick bottle, the bottle opening is a tiny hole, so you can really control the amount you pour in your hand (I've never seen an aftershave bottle like this before).

Fantastic stuff! Now I've got to try Floid to compare!!!!....
