What's new

Do you have a Royal 10 Typewriter?

If so, I would greatly appreciate your assistance!

I recently bought one for $10 with the hopes of cleaning it up, but before I bother, I'd like to get the carriage re-attached to see if it even works.

Everything looks fine, but when I attach it, it just doesn't seem to sit correctly.

What I'm looking for are pics of the underside of the carriage on the (stage) right side (I'll be able to attach a reference pic later) so I can compare and hopefully see what I'm doing wrong.

If you can help out, or have any further questions, let me know!

Here's a pic!

I'm wondering where the arm (circled) goes on a typewriter that hasn't been decapitated.

Mine wants to slip into the area above, but I feel like it's supposed to support the carriage.

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

There are several internet sites dealing with typewriter restoration. For example, the following page:

http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-restoration.html

There are also several places where online user manuals (in pdf format) are available, or where information about such things are available:

http://site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-faq.html#q4

Or there is this:

Sorry I can't just point you directly to a page for your user manual, but it seems likely that you can get the answer to your question if not directly get a user manual.

I only ask this, because it is a form of restoration/maintenance. Is there some place or pictures where one would recommend lubricating the typewriters? I have an Underwood Champion that I would like to keep in running order :)

My Underwood No5 is very cryptic about oiling and says "such parts as require it should be oiled"
Followed by "wipe off all superfluous oil except at the exact spot where it should be oiled" and finally "The back rod especially should be kept moist with oil"

Probably doesn't help at all.

I've tried contacting people online about this sort of stuff, but no one seems to want to check their email.

Oh!
Here's another line under "What not to do" that says
"Do not oil the type bar bearings"
