Default Face Lathering a Cream (vs soap)

I don't usually face lather, I prefer a bowl. On the odd occasion when I do face lather, I usually go for a soap (typically Tabac or a Col. Conk) and get good results. When I try to face lather with cream out of a tub the lather doesn't seem quite right and the last pass is usually pretty thin.

Should I be using more product when face lathering with a cream or is there something else I am missing? Alternatively, are creams simply not as good as soaps for face lathering?

Possibly, as you say, not enough cream. Despite its many fans loading a brush in a tub of cream seems to me very difficult. I scoop out the normal almod sized amount, apply it to brush and then to face. Easy.

I face lather both. I do this ^.

It's the easiest way to control how much you use and make sure you have enough. I tend to use more than the almond, I like wet lather, so need more product.

I read on here the other day someone who rubs the cream on their face, and then face lathers. I liken it to when I use my shave stick. I tried it the other day when my cream came into rotation. Wow it worked! I prefer face lathering, so this worked great! I would rather spend the time moveing the brush on my face as opposed to using a mug, which was the only way I could get a decent lather with my cream.

This pretty much returns to the using more product necessity. It does depend on the cream, however. Castle Forbes' creams can be used very sparingly, yet volumes of lather is generated from this small amount.

I soak my brush, give it a few shakes, dip brush in cream and twist, go to face.
Add more water if necessary. Usually get enough for 3 passes.

When I tried it the other day, I used the same amount I would have put in my mug, I just put it in my hand, and then rubbed it in my beard. I have a tube, not a tub, so squirting it out is probably a little easier.

I do agree, It was a little too much, but I had the time use what was in the left brush for my head. I figured if I were just shaving my face I would use about a pea sized squirt as opposed to an almond.

theres 2 ways I do it, and here they are. mind u, that i am 100% face latherer/ in shower shaver.
    1. i use KMF lavender cream, w/ a pump handle. after wetting brush i shake 2 times usually, i split the badger hairs apart and inject 1/2 pump of cream down deep in the brush. i then proceed to close the brush, and squeeze 1 full pump on top of the bristles and begin face lathering..... i easily get 3+ passes this way.

    2. wet brush same way, etc etc, apply 1 pump directly on tips and begin face lathering, halfway done lathering i then inject the 1/2 pump into the lather already mixed up. adding water as needed.

both work great for me, and hipefully u can get a few new ideas off my techniques i hope!

Great, there are some ideas here to work with. I'm glad no-one is saying that you shouldn't face lather with a cream.

I don't like taking nuggets of cream out of the container, it seems cumbersome to me (but I am finicky I guess). I'll try to load more cream onto the brush than I was doing.
It also sounds like my brush should be a little wetter when using a badger brush in some cream, I am used to drilling a boar into Tabac and usually try to get the excess water out before trying that.

Thanks for the suggestions - should have known I need more water and more product
