Closest shave yet

I got my closest shave yet today.

Used my T&H 1805 samples today. Great lather. I like the Trafalgar better, the kiss-o-meter indicates my wife does too.

I changed two variables, so I am not sure if it was both or what-

I bathed before shaving.
and
I stole an angle for one of my 3 passes from method shaving. Diagonally upward.

My cheeks were getting baby butt smooth before but my neck was lacking. I really got the neck well today.

The ritual tonight-
Soaked brush in mug with hot water while I bathed
Shower
Hot towel for 1 minute
Almond sized bit of SC in cappuccino mug, made fast lather
1st pass straight down
2nd pass side to side
Evaluated missed spots, decided on new angle
3rd pass diagonally
Evaluated, decided 4th pass was not needed
Splashed with hot water and wiped SC from odd spots with towel from before
Dried
AS Balm

In general, I've found that whatever angle works for the different areas of my face that lets me use the LEAST number of strokes results in the least irritation.

Example: N-S pass followed by S-N and then XTG on my cheeks is fine. But a N-S pass on my neck doesn't get much, so it had to be followed with S-N, XTG and several brush-ups.

I found if I went S-N on my neck, then E-W (right side) or W-E (left side) I got a lot closer with fewer strokes.

Everything else being equal - good lather on each pass, no pressure and care with blade angle - the fewer strokes I use, the better.

True, though you have to find the right balance between agression and mildness.
I can rip all my stubble off my face in one pass with a feather & Slim@9, but my skin or what would be left of it wouldn't thank me.
It's a fine line.

And maybe that's what I like about shaving.
