    Default Williams questions

When did Williams change its formulation?

How old does Williams have to be to be considered the Vintage?

How much does a puck of the older Williams usually go for?

There have been minor formulation changes since the late 1960's. The most drastic (and which produced the soap so many of us hate/ think is unusable) happened when Combe bought Williams in 2005. This moved tallow to the second ingredient, where previously it had been first.

I would consider anything pre-Combe to be vintage.

I wouldn't spend more than $10 per puck for it. It is a great performing soap, but effectively scentless. Scent plays a huge part in the overall wet shaving experience for me.

Thanks, John, I just knew you'd be in first

that answers my questions. A friend has 6 or so pucks of Williams from maybe 6 years ago and I was wondering how to identify it. The link should help a lot.

05 is the cut off for most of us but I am particle to the pre 1985 on back Williams. The Lather just seems to be slicker, richer and creamer than any pucks I have used since then.

The Post 05 Williams is best as a hand soap in your laundry room sink.
