    Default Is it "Shave Ready"?

I am looking to buy a straight razor. Fendrihan has some which they call "pre-sharpened, shave ready". Has anyone purchased one of these, and if so, is it really shave ready? I had my eye on a Dovo. Would it be done buy/for the vendor or the manufacturer? Thanks for you advice!

I know the pre-sharpened Fendrihan straights awhile ago where honed by member "floppyshoes" who is a well regarded honer. However I think he's retired from that scene, so I don't know who hones them now.

However they have made mention to the "non pre-sharpened" razors on the site warn that the factory hone is not sufficient for shaving. To me this sounds like the vendor has taken extra steps to ensure these are truely shave ready. Although that's just my take on things. I'm sure a friendly email to the vendor asking how the pre-sharpened razors have been honed should clear up any questions. If it's sharpened at the factory, you can assume its probably not shave ready.

No idea, the best way might be to send an email to the owner to have an idea on the process...

Manufacturers normally do not send the razors out shave ready, the vendor usually contracts that service out and adds it to the cost.

    Yep!

Factory edges are usually pretty average. I've recently bought a dovo pearlex, and shaved with it from the box just to see, it was a very average shave. Make sure it comes specifically "shave ready" from wherever you buy

I have not honed a lot of new Dovos, but the factory edges seem to be a bit of a crap shoot. Some of them actually are pretty good and some of them are way off. Unless you feel like gambling, you should make sure that it is honed beyond what the factory did.

    Fendrihan's a straight-up guy, if he says it's shave-ready I would believe him.

That's what I want to hear. I have had nothing but great service from them, so I might pull the trigger on a real blade. Thanks!
