Default Le Cannele - a new Martin de Candre shaving soap scent?

Not sure if they've had it for a while or it's a recent addition to MdC's product line-up: Le Cannelé limited edition shaving soap

    28 Euros for 140 Grams

I suppose Cannele means "cinnamon", so this could be a worthy option to consider for those who love the performance of the MdC shaving soap but are not too crazy about the rosemary-lavender scent of the regular one (or the uncented version).

I could be wrong, but I think it's the same shaving soap in a different bowl. I don't think it's a new scent. I think the "cake batter" connotations come from the shape of the bowl rather than it being a new scent.

I suppose it's cinnamon, but cinnamon in French is Cannelle. Cannelé is different according to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canel%C3%A9

Cinnamon sounds great to me.I have a tub of the unscented and I love it.
The site says it's a limited edition soap. Now I have to decide if I have to have it.

I'm seriously thinking about making a wad of MdC, cramming it into a $2 glass bowl and posting a cost breakdown here. It'll be well under $5.

    Here's the recipe

    Fats:

    29% coconut oil 76degree
    71% Stearic Acid

    Saponifiers:

    Potassium Hydroxide

    Add some Glycerin at trace.

    Enjoy.

If MdC spent half as much time evaluating their shipping costs as they did thinking of new bowls to sell soap in, they'd have a lot more customers

Yes, the shipping costs are ridiculous, but it's not them. I think their hands are tied by French postal regulations. I've tried to order other items directly from France & have been hit w/the same fees.

Can one of our French members either verify or correct this statement for me?

+1 Prices of their soaps are not expensive. Shipping is the main problem however I can't resist too much to order a Cannele.

It's been tried before. Hope it comes out better than the soap in this thread.

It's not theory. I've made soaps like it before. MdC has no mystique. It's as basic as soaps come, that's why the price they charge is so hilarious to me.

The price for the actual soap, given the amount, is not that high. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to get right.

...I guess you'll just have to shave with Arko, Williams, and Ian de Candre from now on.

    Time...

Ten minutes after my last post I decided to prove my point.
I've made a 5oz (fats) batch of Ian de Candre (hey we thought of the same name) and cleaned up all my equipment. It's a little shiny because of such a small batch the mixer pumped a lot of air into it... but pics coming.

Oh and a good 10-15mins was spent on returning my coconut oil to liquid state.

So basically, 5-15mins a batch... yeah, I can live with that.

    edits;
Fats: stearic almost fully liquified (~190 F)
    Liquid: KOH and H2O
Soap, <5secs after mixing (stearic acid/KOH soap is a spontaneous trace... so there is NO time spent on tracing).

I understand the shipping is expensive, but I don't think they are by any means trying to find the most cost effective method. They are just using some default method instead of analyzing the options, like a good retailer should, to make their product more available to consumers.

    I don't wanna get sued.

I've said before I don't care for soft soaps personally. But Potassium Stearate is a shaving soap "Easy Button", so MdC's haloed "traditional technique" nonsense getting people to pay $50 for a few oz of soap is a joke.
