    Default my new simpsons. It`s a emperor 2 3band

    Dear forum members,
I am new on the forum and I am happy to see so many guys here that do still care about the daily routine of welness in shaving. (just sniffing up the last breezes of the Trumper rose I shaved with half an hour ago)

After having used several bigger brushes in the past I have bought a SIMPSONS EMPEROR 2 and have used it for about 10 turns and can make up my mind I guess. For face lathering a very precise and I would say PERFECT brush ! I use it with creams ( men-u , Trumper Rose, L`occitane Cade) and for all these products I do have more than enough lather for 3 rounds and the good backbone and size of the brush brings the stuff where is should be very precize. The long handle prevents from getting slippery with lather and has a magnificent ergonomics. I would say THE perfect brush for cream FACE laterers amongst us. Just a slight shake out of the water after initial plunge in warm water or shower is enough to make this brush have the perfect water / cream balance. I just put an adequate quantity (differs quit a bit per cream I use) on top of the brush and start lathering on my face with great response within seconds. Quick cleaning and drying is an additional Pre. Mine has a 20-21 cm knot and a 45mm loft. (measured with electronic measure tool). Loft is not typical bulb and not typical fan shaped so I would say it is an all rounder in this respect. Because of rather short loft the EMPEROR is not floppy but quit resilient and does not bloom a lot as you can see in the pic after 10 rounds or so. The Emperor 1 would definately be too small for my taste re ergonomics and the 3 would be o.k. for very large hands and making enough lather for a couple of guys at once. The E2 is the perfect "normal / smallish" brush that have become the favorite for so many that own one. It is not a brush for the man who want to have "the biggest" but for the "connaisseur" I would think. My learning curve has come to an end and I believe in smaller high end brushes for a more precise, soap or cream economical, well dosed scrubbing, fast cleaning and drying and a non spoiling and flapping and nostrils and ears cleaning result.

    Happy weekend !

Looking back to my initial posting I just thought that the Brush deserved slightly better pics.

Very nice choice. I've always loved the shape of the Emperor's handle. Lots of luck and welcome to B&B!

Nice. The E3 three-band I had was my second-favorite brush -- it could lather anything. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, if the bank would just cooperate.

Welcome to B+B and thanks for posting about your lovely new brush. I am awaiting my first Simpson 3-Band Super brush in the post and hope to have it tomorrow morning! I have tried lots of Simpson brushes and I am yet to find one that I don't like.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts as you use the brush more.

Thanks a lot for such a warm welcome in this forum.
Not 1 single hair is lost since I started witht his brush and the balance between softness of the super quality badger and the relation between knot and loft is very nice. Some messages I have read about people preferring this brush in 2 band but I could imagine that it would become to resilient then.
    Any thoughts on that ?

Does anyone have an emperor that differs from mine in respect of bloom, loft shape or experience ?
By the way ( I know it is off topic a bit) but I have ordered a tube of Acqua di Parma to try first time ever. (so not the tub but the tube)
What to expect here from the stuff itself and in combi with this type of brush ?

That is a beautiful brush, creamy. The Three-Band Super Badger brushes made by Vulfix-Simpson tend to have a more fan shape to them. The Two-Band Super Badger brushes tend to have a pronounced bulb shape to them. As far as your specs go, I would say they are dead on for this brush range. The Emperor 2 seems to be the best value in the Emperor line.

I do have one question, how do you face lather? Swirl? Paint? Thanks in advance. This is one brush that I have been considering for a long time.

Altshaver, I do start with some swirls to have the cream spread effectively. than alternate swirls and paint movements along the process till I do have this magic moment of the perfect lather we all recognize soo well. Painting the lather to the exact position is an easy job with this brush and also the amount of lather it can carry is good for 3 rounds at least. Most of the time I give it 2 complete rounds and than feel where is still some "work" needed and than squeeze some lather out with my left hand (I am right handed) to cover those last spots that still need some finishing touch and treat them seperately without doing the whole face all over for those last "spots".
After this the job is done and also the emperor is "empty" . Not a lot of waist and exactly enough for my taste. In case you want to creat 4 or more Santa Claus beards with your brush I would choose an other species. The longer handle is a big advantage to me as the handle is not very likely to get spread over with the lather hence slippery in your fingers and you have a good ergonomic grip in case of regular handsize. Esthetics are a very personal thing of course but it is the SIMPSONS in the range that appeals most to my taste of balance and beauty.
I paid 92 Euros and believe this is well spend.

Thanks for the comments and photos of your brush. Isn't it wonderful when you use a brush that "just does it"?

Thanks again. To celebrate the succes of the brush I will let it have a go on Acqua di Parma and Castle Forbes lavender next week as well.
I am preparing a review of this brush in combination with 6 different cremes.

that is interesting indeed. I do wrap some very thin teflon tape around it that is nice tight and sticky. Stays on for ever and even looks good. The brush gets a very firm hold and won`t wobble . You also got a nice Colonel there, should be around same size as mine with slightly bigger knot as far as I remember.
