Wsfa.com is taking donations for tornado relief so far they have a little over $179,000. They will need much much more. Over 1700 injured and last I heard near 300 were killed. 2 students so far were found dead.

I live about 5 miles south of the tornado's path, so we escaped any damage. However, the tornado cut a path through the middle of town -- a heavily populated area. The destruction is unbelievable. Many homes and businesses are just piles of rubble. I was able to view some aerial photos and had trouble recognizing where they were due to the lack of any recognizable landmarks.

All prayers and well wishes are certainly welcome as it will be quite some time before all rescue and recovery efforts are completed.

With help you will recover though i promise you that. Though somethings just wont be the same and you never will forget that day. I wish I could come help with recovery but you guys are 4 hours away from me and i work 10 to 3..Still have school to. I remember waking up at 5:45 to leave the house by 6 to go pick up the broken pieces of Enterprise in 2007 like it was yesterday, its disheartening. I pray for Alabama as a whole to recover from this disaster. Im Glad your ok and hope our other members from the North will chime in and be ok too. Just heard 6 Alabama students were killed.

How bad is Tennessee? Not much coverage of the other states down here....

This is my first visit to B&B since 4/26/11. The EF5 that devastated North Alabama missed my house by about 6 miles. Here's an interesting link that an aerial photography company has provided. Other than to point out that this beast was 1.25 miles wide and traveled for 132 miles, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

In contrast to those directly hit by the tornado, I was merely inconvenienced. We were without power at my house for 5 days while TVA repaired downed trunk lines from the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. I missed 7 days of work for the same reason.

Having seen some of the affected areas first hand, I consider myself truly blessed. There are many that have lost everything they own. Some lost their lives. The level of assistance that our community has provided to those in need has been astounding. Masses of volunteers have provided food & water, manpower to clear brush/rubble/debris, and financial support. The recovery effort will last years, but I am already seeing how the community will continue to help move it along. This experience has been, and will continue to be, both humbling and inspiring.

Mike--thanks for the update. I'm glad you and yours are alright. My family continues our prayers for those families. All of my Alabama people seem to have been just out of the storm's grasp as well. So far, I've only heard of one death in my family--a nephew of my Grandmother.
