    Default practise lather

C&E brush, which is EJ brush. Bigelow cream..

This is after around 60 seconds .

soak brush in bowl with warm water
    squeeze and shake brush
    1.2" of cream
swirl brush into bowl and ten slowly add a drop of water until i felt the lather was decent enough..

attached is pic, some of lather is on my brush as well - pic attached for that too

Looks all right, did you try it? Spread some on your hand to know if there's glide.

This will also help in overall quality of your lather when you actually use it, and less chance for nick, irritation, and/or blood.

    Here's my definition of glide.

If you spread finished lather on your hands and you can still hold a merkur futur firmly, then it's not good lather

In all seriousness... there's a difference between mediocre, and slick. You will feel the difference if you experience both, and you will always strive for the latter. It will "clicK".

If you ditch the bowl and use your face you'll know proper lather when it's achieved. I'm not saying bowl lathering is wrong, lots of folks do it, but the face gives instant feedback when building lather and also includes "free" face prep.

Similar to what someone already wrote, when your face is lathered, if you can get friction on your facial skin to pull it taut, your lather is probably deficient somewhere. The facial skin should feel somewhat like a greased pig and about as easy to get friction on. Too, the lather should be hydrated enough to at least last through one pass, longer is better, 8-10 minutes would be excellent.

was face lathering before using bowl and never got it to be like my pics..no matter how long i swirled the brush on my face. hence the bowl. figure if i can get my lathering down using bowl, the i can graduate to face..

trying to eliminate one variable at a time

I face lather soaps and bowl lather creams.

When I purchase a new soap or cream, I give it a practice run or two, just to see where it stands. Not all creams and soaps are made equal.
