  1. Default First DE Shave with SS

So my Gillette SS turned up today (courtesy of IronHammer). After a quick clean and sterilise, I went for my first shave.

I used my last remaining Wilkinson Sword blade, C&E Sienna cream and my high street brush. Worked a bit on my lather technique and did a two pass WTG and XTG shave. Apart from a small area under my chin, all pretty smooth. Tidied the chin up with a quick ATG and it feels gooooood.

Although I was DE shaving before - I was using a cheapo razor. I always suffered a bit of soreness across the neck, but not tonight

Will be looking to get a blade sampler pack to see what really suits - but enjoyed the experience of the SS. Had to modify my technique a bit and concentrate, but still an enjoyable experience.

    Excellent!

I am happy to hear about your success.

I am a BIG fan of my SS. It's my daily shaver.

OP, Your experience is precisely why I love them. That doesn't take anything away from modern razors, just that they knew about beard removal back then too. Even further back than that too. There is an Autostrop PIF somewhere on the forum. You ought to get involved in that. They give a great shave too, and it's really neat, IMO, to shave with a razor that's 100 years old.

The SS has been my top razor for a good year now. I'm glad you like it.

Congrats on a successful 1st shave with the SS. A '60s SS was the first DE I used, and I was hooked from shave 1!Now it's time for the RAD to hit you with a vengeance, so be careful or you'll have vintage Gillettes running out your ears!

Cheers Chaps - always nice to get feedback.

It's my birthday in a few weeks and I'm contemplating either Merkur HD or an EJ DE87 (I like the look of the ivory handle).

I can see how this becomes an obsession!
