What's new

Just bought my first straight.

I bought a Parker Shavette from shavenation.com

This should be interesting. Will post the results sometime tomorrow morning. If I don't, please send help.

Welcome to MANHOOD!

My first straight was something like that...the Fromm Hair Shaper. Not sure if the Parker takes the thicker single edge-type blades or DE blades snapped in half, but I can tell you from experience that the single-edge type blades are not as forgiving as a full-hollow straight razor.

I have a Parker too. It's nice and does take DE blades snapped in half. Agreed, not nearly as forgiving as a traditional straight.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

So this razor just uses standard DE razors and you flip it once the one side is done?

Nope. It's a straight razor that takes half-DE blades. You snap the blade in half and load it in and keep the other half somewhere safe. I think they sell special half-blades for these as well.

Congrats on buying your first straight! I own a Parker Shavette as well, and it is a fine tool. Nicely built, and has a decent amount of weight. :tongue_sm
