    Default Torrey Razors

    Hey there,

I have seen other people's Torreys razor and I noticed mine looks quite different with the writing on the blade.

    Here take a look
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ht_2441wt_1141

Does any one know a bit about the history of Torrey as well does anyone else have a special looking Torrey, or is mine one of a kind?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ht_2441wt_1141 This is Bad Bryce's Torrrey

My Torrey says The celebrated hollow ground razor. It is an awesome shaver.

But is it sharp enough to shave sleeping mice without waking them up?

    Nice Torrey bad bryce.

I have one that says "Mayfair" on it, and another with "Our 136" so I'd say its not rare to have etching or engraving on the blade, it appears they made quite a few different styles over the years.

Sorry that my link did not work. I have no idea why. Thanks Hair apparent for getting the link to work.

So there are other Torreys with etching on it. Good to know because when i see other people's Torreys, there is usually nothing written on it.

I love my Torrey. Goodtann told me that this razor is as good as a Filarmonica, but it sure did not cost the same. Way less and crazy sharp

If there other people with Torreys please let us have a look at yours.

I would like to see them

I'll try to post mine when my photobucket account is fixed, they've been having troubles for a week or so...

Enough already with all the posts on Torrey's, do we want to create a bubble?

I have 5, one has etching the others don't. And one is currently now my favorite and will probably induce me to sell my Grelot.

Funny you should bring this up. I just received a Torrey (156?) today from BC, and it sure looks good (thanks Terry!). 3/4 hollow, or what I have wanted in a Grelot but haven't had enough experience to justify. Can't wait to try it later in the week. No writing on the blade though. I live not too far from Worcester, Mass., where the razor was made, so I have been thinking to make a trip there to see the old sites involved. My understanding is that the Torrey Co. made both razors and strops and was in operation from ca. 1860-1960. A manufacturing facility (which still stands) dates to 1883. If and when I visit it (perhaps in two weeks), I will take some snaps and post them.

    A plus,

    Alan

Mine, which I used not half an hour ago, has what looks like a monogram on the blade. It looks like the initials would be A.R.S., with the 's' in the middle, of course. I think I've seen it on another Torrey, too.
    Uh-oh.

I realized that out of my 5 Torreys two are in fact engraved, instead of one. My most recent had that monogram etching. It was badly rusting so I sanded it and by the time I finished only half of the monogram is still visible, but indeed 2 out of 5 have etching.

Haven't seen any Torrey's with fancy etching though, just numbers or the monogram.
