Default Triumph, Defeat, and Triumph again!

I will try to keep this as short as possible. My first DE shaving experience was amazing! I used a Merkur Razor as well as a Merkur razor blade. No cuts, no irritation, and a close shave! I got about 4 shaves out of the razor and then tried my new Astra SP's....ouch ouch ouch! I'm pretty sure it was my unrefined technique that caused all the pain and suffering. I shaved about 6 times with the Astras trying new things and crossing my fingers each time. Finally I gave up. I went to the BX on base and found some cheapo DE blades (the exchange brand) and wow! They work amazing. I'm sure its cause the Astras are sharper and my technique was crappy, but I couldn't be more happy!!!!
I was so excited about DE shaving but after the Astra fiasco I was starting to get discouraged. I have some Shark Super Chrome blades on the way. I hope they are as forgiving as the cheapo blades I bought at the BX. Thanks for reading!!

Blades and technique and facial hair make for a funny mix. The blade that works well for your friend may hack you to bits and that is just the way it goes. If you are new to DE shaving and the BX cheapos work for you then they would be great to improve your technique. Shave with one for a week or so then slip in an Astra or one of your Sharks and see how it goes. Just don't get discouraged because a certain blade doesn't like your face hair.

    good luck

Take a close look at technique. Blades are highly variable, but with good technique you should be able to use any. IMO, the Astra SP are sharp, but the Sharks are sharper. Remember, NO pressure.

on edit: to elaborate- sharp blades make for less work, but they will let you know pretty quick if your technique is lacking.
