Default All of my DE razors moved to drawer.

I just moved all of my DE razors to a drawer tonight. SE razors are out on display and in use. I wish I had of started with SE shaving. I simply get better, smoother and more comfortable shaves with no nicks or irritation. I always heard about being careful with SE razors so I stuck to DE shaving. I put together a collection of almost 20 DE razors (and a few hundred blades) before I bought my first SE. After my first SE shave I was hooked. I now have almost a dozen SE razors and love every one of them. There's no comparison in my book, although I sill plan to pull out a DE from time to time.
How crazy is this? SE razors are it for me, yet I bought a new Merkur HD yesterday and have bids out on a couple of Gillettes. I still have RAD and RAD doesn't differentiate. I just wonder how long it will be before I buy a straight?

It's not crazy at all. Use what you like, and you're allowed to change your mind over time. All those extra DE razors might be a good PIF for some newbies getting started, and make some room for more SE's.... just a thought :)

    Great post! Keep on shavin!

I know what you mean. I find SE razors to be my favorites too. The funny thing is the older ones are better than the newer ones. The Gem Junior Bar, 1901, is an amazing razor. The 1920s C. V. Heljestrand with a modern blade is the closest shaving razor I have ever owned.

I prefer SE shaving too, but for a couple days a week I use a DE. But I always look forward returning to my SE razors.

I was starting to go this way.

Then I brought out a Red Tip for cleaning... one of the rare "++" models, too! Put in an Asco blade, and have gotten really nice shaves over the past few days.

Variety is the spice of life.

What blade(s) are working well for you? Seems the selection of SE blades is pretty limited.

the other night i had a dream where my great grandfather was yelling at me for not using his razor (a 1924 cased old new standard) that he saved, hoping one day his decendant might use it. my reply to his rant went something along the lines of..."gramps if u want it back, its in the bottom of the cabinet under the sink next to the hemmerroid cream and the wifes feminine products."
Truth be told gramps 24 cased gold new is a fine razor, but i have limited counterspace due to the SE collection from the gem bar LC- up to the contour, and everything SE in between proudly displayed and used. sorry gramps. You shouldnt have believed the hype. DE is just ehhhhhh.

I must say, I am intrigued that so many people like SE shavers. What kind of blade do you put in it?

Thankfully you only have 3 options. Well, speaking from the perspective of someone with an epic DE stash

You mean those 'single edged razor blades' they sell in quantity at Home Depot don't give good shaves...... only half kidding, Just got my own first SE and no blades as of yet. Curious to this myself :)

I enjoy my SE's' as well. Just got my 7th shave out of a GEM blade in a GEM JR. Bar Lathercatcher. The most shaves I have ever gotten from a DE blade was 4 with 3 being the norm.

I just had my fifth shave with a Feather and I am still going.

I experienced SE shaving a few weeks ago and have never looked backed ! My DE razors will soon be sold or included in a PIF.

steeper learning curve, but once you get it (and can maintain your own edge) you won't want to go back.

You'll only pick up a SE or DE if you wake up late.
I am curious...is it as smooth a shave (or better) than a Feather? I am not being facetious, I just have never tried a straight, but I admit I am drawn to them.

Sounds similar to my story. I get the best results from my se's, and that includes the injectors, but I have quite a few de's as well so I bring one out every so often just for something different. But I really prefer using an se.

As mentioned, we don't have much choice in blades. I use the American Safety Razor blades sold at CVS and Walgreens.

I'm thankful that I don't have the mind boggling choices in blades DE users have. The blade is consistent. Now it's just my technique and choice of razor that determines the quality of the shave.
