What's new

giving it a go

Hi Guys

After reading through some of the amazing posts on here I felt inspired:blush: to give it a go.
So a quick look on ebay and I ended up with 2 straights for £12 the pair.
So no expecting much I wasn't dissapointed when they arrived

The 2 razors are marked up as
1: " THE HAMBURG RING" Extra Hollow Ground and near the scales it says "Best Oval, Silver Steel, made in Germany".

2: "MILLING RAZOR" and near the scales it says "Joseph Haywood & comp, SHEFFIELD" with what looks like a picture of a teapot.

(hope these pics come out ok, not to sure if I'm doing it ok)

Now these where cheap so if I make a mess of them I'm not too bothered, but want to give it a go. The blades have quite a bit of rust especially near the scales. So I'll have to remove them to get to it all. This isn't a bad thing as the scales are in a bit of a state.

Now I don't have the tools or skill to make new scales, so I was wondering if scales can be bought for these razors as a straight replacement.

If I do a half decent job on these I'll post more pics, if not you'll never hear from me again

edit: the Milling might actually say Hilling after a closer look

the scales on both are badly warped and chipped unfortunatly. Might give it a go if not. Stripped the scales off and the blades seem to be cleaning up ok.

Practice with the Hamburg Ring.

When you have the technique down, do the Milling Razor.

That one is too cool. :thumbup1:

You can straighten horn scales, especially since you have them off the razor.

The Haywood, J.E. was only made for nine years! 1860-1869. A rare find indeed~
Congratulations
