    Default Dorco Throwdown

After so many people complained about Dorcos, I decided to have a Dorco throwdown.
Using the two different Dorco blades, I shaved multiple times. I than shaved with other blades and will list the winners and losers below........
Dorco or clamshell found on beach.........Winner-Clamshell
Dorco or rusty butter knife...........Winner-Rusty butter knife
Dorco or jagged bottom torn off soda can...........Winner-Jagged soda can
Dorco or Folded paper(like what you get a paper cut from)..Winner-Dorco (paper doesn't cut well when its wet).
Dorco or a Used Feather (shaved with 21 times).......Winner-Used feather blade
Dorco or Empty razor with no blade..........Winner-To close to call. Tie (however the empty razor was much smoother).
    Final results.........
    Dorco.....1 win 1 tie
    Everything else.....4 wins 1tie
Clearly this scientific test demonstrates the winner by a wide margin.
As expected, just about everything beats Dorco

i reckon the Dorco's are awesome, nice and smooth, i prefer them to derby's, sharks, astras basically all blades i have tried except feathers and personnas

    "Blades - the ultimate YMMV..."

I'm gonna load up with the bottom of a soda can now and report back to you :p
    Cheers, Matt

No argument here except I'd have given it to the unloaded razor.

One of these days, somebody is going to do a proper blind test of razor blades, and the results are going to be different than what we'd think....

    This test is crap.

You should have used vintage jagged bottom torn off soda can to get better results. Better luck next time.
Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

There are three critical types of moments in life: Times when we should use opportunity to be enamoured with finer details, and times we should ignore the minutia.

I don't understand...You used the sharp edge for your 'test' right?...NO?

    There's your problem.

Default Soda can age' is it vintage?

The above testing was completed by using the jagged bottom off a 1972 Coke can. So does that qualify as vintage?

Everybody knows that when shaving with paper that you dry shave. .... Dorco or dry shave with folded paper..... Folder paper wins!!!!

    what he said,
I have used de blades for over 50 years and except for a few chinese brands almost all have been satisfactory performers

if dorcos (et. al.) didn't do the job, they would not still be in the market,

some of us are pretty self righteous and judgemental

I don't have as much experience as many of you and yet they work for me. There probably is something that would work even better but for the cost I can't complain. The Family Dollar brand did are more expensive and do not work well for me. YMMV. If you don't like them, there are reports of a blade sample PIF being started.

Come on, tell us what you really think about Dorco.

Is Dorco an acronym for Dull Old Razor Company?

I think it would be, and not in a way that a lot of folks around here would like. There are several reported results of blind taste test of mass market beer, for example, where the testers are absolutely positive they can tell them apart, but the results are reflective of random chance. I don't think blades would be that different.

I don't know about that, Topgumby. I was sure I'd absolutely love the Red Personna Israeli based on most reports from here, but I hated them; one of the roughest shaves I've ever had. I didn't believe I'd think Feather would feel sharper than my beloved Merkur, but I was wrong about that too. And I surely never expected the cheapo Shark would be almost as sharp and comfy as Feather or Merkur, but they're close, not quite there, but close.

Actually, a blind test would be an absolutely great idea.

I've been wondering how much of the perceived difference is ... well, placebo.
Blades are very similar indeed, it would seem.

IMHO Dorcos aren't the best blades, I always get a weeper or two but when it comes to DE razor DE blade combos some blades just perform better in a particular razor. I get ok results with my Lord Platinums in most razors but in my Fatboy and Flair tip SS I get a really close smooth shave.

And please note that it doesn't really matter if one agrees with the group. The perceived difference from blade to blade is whats interesting, not if there is consensus. If it turns out that people are in fact not able to tell the difference in a blind test ... well, then we are done.
