Default Leather vs. Nylon Shoulder Holster

I am looking to buy a shoulder holster for CWC (Walther PPK/S). Thinking horizontal over vertical version. So what are you fellow BB'ers using? Nylon is far less expensive, but is it any good? Is the leather holster really worth all that money for occasional use?

I have never tried carrying in a shoulder rig but I would say that if the leather is more comfortable it would definitely be worth it, even for occasional use. If it is in fact comfortable and you like it you may carry that way a lot more than you expect. But if you cheap out on a crappy nylon rig then you may never really know whether you like carrying in a shoulder holster.

For daily use leather is great as it has a chance to break in and mold itself to you and will last longer. For occasional use nylon works fine and won't creak like non broken in leather may. Nylon is usually lighter and as the ppk is not a heavy gun this is fine. With a heavy piece the sturdiness of leather is better. Just my opinion.
A combination of clean elegance with a vague forboding of dread is attractive.

I carried a gun for many many years on the job and had both and they both have + and-. The nylon lasts forever but can tangle up and be uncomfortable and be somewhat unstable but are cheaper and are unaffected by sweat in the summer. The leather is the most comfortable and stable and easiest to put on and off but don't last as long, can deteriorate from sweat in the summer, cost way more but look classier.

Just make sure which ever you get buy a quality one. For me it was leather only because I had to wear most of the day and the leather was more comfortable. Also the style will affect how it wears. Some have all kinds of stabilizing strops. I preferred the horizontal over the upside down.

I'm a leather guy as I just feel end run its nicer in the long term. However I really question the use of a shoulder holster for CCW do to the fact that no matter how you draw you have to sweep the muzzle through 90-180 degrees to present. Anytime you can wear a shoulder holster you could also wear a IWB or OWB holster just as easy and they are better in many regards. Just my opinion but the safety of muzzle control overwhelms any usefulness or coolness factor of a shoulder holster.

A decent nylon horizontal shoulder rig will cost around $20-25. All the leather rigs start at $60 and go up to $125-150 with ease. I am only going to wear occasionally, often during the colder months when a jacket is worn. IWB is good, my current set-up, but can be a bother if bending down a lot.

Every method has issues. IWB? I've seen guys pull guns in the field and the gun came out with the holster still attached. Holsters on the Belt with paddles are the best but they can be uncomfortable sitting in a car and they tear your jackets up and if you wear a revolver they are too bulky.
