Default question about touching up new TI?

I had a new Thiers Issard Dos Festonne delivered today.I did not pay extra to get it touched up so my question is should I tape the spine and do a few x strokes on my coti with just water or a few laps on a balsam wood strop with crox.Maybe I should do both?I just do not want to dull the straight accidentally and have to start all over with slurry.

It's hard to say, if its close to shave ready a small touch up on water might do, but it may need more depending on what you're used to shaving with.

I had a TI factory hone perfectly fine for shaving right out of the box, you might want to just strop and shave to see where it stands and then try to decide from there.

Others might say just do a full hone, others might just find it perfectly satisfactory after a good stropping. Only you can decide.

I didn't like the edge on my TI Grelot. Apparently they are finished on a pasted strop, so a simple touchup might not hit the edge. I took it back to a light slurry and finished on my coticule, which was much better for me.

I guess I will just strop it and give it a try.
    Thanks.

That's what I would do. Then if the edge wasn't where I wanted it to be, I'd then take it to the coti.

I've got several ti's i the new steel . they do shave out of the box but i do find them to be very harsh. Mine was from raspur. I was told they are finished on the ti bio 1.0 and 0.25 diamond paste from ti. you may find the very edge may or may not make contact with your hone, due to pasted edge. I'd test it any way, if its to harsh or not sharpenought. You could try a thew laps on crox. what i did was coticule with very misty slurry and i mean misty then water only 50/50. this tamed the edge down to a very mellow edge on all my ti's. just water did not make my edge mellow enough. try water first . Also put black marker along the bevel and make sure the coticule removes the marker clean of the bevel, then you no the razor is making full contact.

i mist this post but i found exactly the same to harsh to shave with coticule misty slurry water works brill, it set the edge back a little making a nice mellow edge.

Hey Paul, Glad to hear everything worked out well. There's nothing better than a new razor that gives a pleasing shave. Enjoy it!
