First Restorer Question - When to Polish/Sand

Shavemeisters,

I'm in the middle of my first restore (I call it practice), and I'm not exactly sure if I should use Maas polish to finish the product or if I was supposed to do that at the beginning of the process.

So far, I've basically sanded the blade with 180, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, and I'm planning on continuing with 1000, 1500, 1800, 2000, and possibly micro mesh after that to higher grits (it's just practice so I'm in no hurry).

Was I supposed to add the Maas at the beginning or is it a product that can be used at the very end of the sanding process? Your advice is well appreciated.

Nice job so far, you have more patience than I, hand sanding drives me nuts.

The final polish with Maas or equivalent comes at the end.

To enlarge the photos you need to upload bigger images. I find that somewhere around 900 dpi for the largest side is in the ballpark.

Thanks for the clarification. I had been told by a friend who restores knives that he uses it as a last step (I received some of the product from him, hence the specific question about Maas), but I didn't want to assume anything with the razors.
